His Mother, Mary Cleophas was a relative of our Lady who stood at the foot of the cross. St. Jude was related to Jesus, therefore, through his father and mother as a cousin of our Lord and the brother of James. After the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, St. Jude realised his vocation and began preaching the Good News of Christ in Judaea and Samaria, Syria, Mesopotamia and Libya.

Prayer to St. Jude Thaddeus Most Holy Apostle, St. Jude Thaddeus, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, the name of the traitor who delivered your beloved Master into the hands of his enemies has caused you to be forgotten by many. But the Church honors you, and I invoke you as the special advocate of those who are in trouble and almost without hope. Help me to realize that through our faith we triumph over life's difficulties by the power of Jesus who loved us and gave his life for us. Come to my assistance that I may receive the consolation and succor of heaven in all my needs, trials, and sufferings, particularly ( here make your request ) and that I may praise God with you and all the saints forever.

Novena to Saint Jude
Saint Jude – Patron of Desperate Causes
St. Jude one of the Twelve Apostles and brother of James the Less is a mysterious figure in many ways. He moves in and out of the gospel story as a shadowy figure almost as if he were deliberately seeking to submerge his own personality in that of Christ rather than draw any attention to himself. This very obscurity is one of the reasons why he remained unknown and forgotten for so many centuries. Another explanation for the forgotten saint is the complexity of the "two" Judes which arose because there were two Judes among the twelve apostles: Jude Thaddeus, the cousin of Christ; and Judas Iscariot, the betrayer of Christ. When St. Matthew and St. Mark wrote their Gospels, they attempted to avoid confusion between the two men by listing them apart. They called our St. Jude only by the name of Thaddeus. When they listed the Twelve Apostles, they placed the traitor last and classified him as "Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Him. Also, in the biblical list of apostles, in the Canon of the Mass, and in the Litany of the Saints our Jude is prayed to only by the name of Thaddeus. This has helped to make him the "forgotten" saint. Later, when The Acts of the Apostles was written by St. Luke (1,13), after the infamous Judas had passed from the sight of the living, his name was dropped from the list of the apostles, and that of Matthias, his successor, was added. Then St. Jude Thaddeus was called by his first name, Jude, but for a long time he remained a "forgotten Jude."

SAINT JUDE – APOSTLE – FIRST CENTURY Feast: October 28 We have little knowledge of the life of this Apostle, who is known mainly as the author of the Epistle of St. Jude, the book immediately preceding the Apocalypse of St. John in the New Testament. At the outset of this Epistle Jude identifies himself as "the brother of James." This is taken to mean St. James the Less, bishop of Jerusalem, who is known for his authorship of the Epistle bearing his name. Jude, also known by the name of Thaddeus, and James the Less were sons of Cleophas and Mary, the latter, possibly, a cousin of the Blessed Virgin. We find a reference (Matthew xiii, 55) to Judge as one of the brethren of the Lord, but we are mindful of the fact that near relatives were often called brothers in ancient times. Jude the Apostle
St. Jude is known by several names. In Lebanon he is called Lebbeus, Levi, or Laba and is venerated in the town of Hosroun. The Maronite Synaxarion says that he was one of the Seventy disciples of the Lord and calls him by the name of Thaddeus. According to one tradition, he suffered martyrdom in Raha, and according to another, he died in Beirut.
Today St. Jude is considered to be one of the Twelve (luke 6:16 and Acts 1:13). Matthew 10:3 and Mark 3:18 refer to him as Thaddeus so as to avoid confusing him with Judas Iscariot (John 14:22). The Thaddeus in Aramaic means, "chest" and in Hebrew the name Lebbeus means "heart". Jude was the brother of James the Less and Simon who were the first bishops of Jerusalem. After the Last Supper when Jesus promised to manifest himself to everyone who would love him, Jude asked the Lord why he didn't manifest himself to the world, since he thought that Jesus was to be a secular messiah, an earthly king. A brief epistle is ascribed to Jude and most scholars accept Jude as the author of this letter. Little is known about the preaching or death of Jude, although some have said that he died in Persia. Devotion to Saint Jude is very strong in the Maronite Church and many churches are named in his honor. He is know as
