ALTIZER ON BLAKE? Message-Id: To: BLAKE@albion.com Subject: Kenosis Message-Id: Kenosis: self-emptying This is a term with a long history in Christian theology. A kenotic Christ is a Christ who gives himself to the world; the godhead in him is giving and emptying itself into and for the Creation. To term this "atheistic" is to label in haste a concept and term which Christian theologians have rather obviously found congenial. (The word I keep seeing in Altizer's writings is "reversal" he's in favor of reversals, as many as possible apparently. Blake as an "atheist" would be an example. So this makes him fun to read! Well.....) To repeat: Altizer told me once that A.L. Morton (_The Everlasting Gospel_) showed him what direction to take when he wrote that early book about Blake. In the kenotic version, Jesus "emptied" himself of the godhead in order to become human, leaving God in heaven to announce his pleasure in his son at the time of John the Baptist's baptism. The two views clearly involve completely different notions of theophany. I realize that this is probably a simplistic version of the differencecorrect me if I am way off base. Thomas Cochrane , the son of the ninth Earl of Dundonald, was born in Annsfield, Lanarkshire in 1775. He was educated at home and after a brief spell at the Chauvet Military Academy in London , he joined the Royal Navy. Cochrane became captain of H.M.S. Speedy in 1800 and he soon established a reputation for his daring and brilliant seamanship against the French Navy.
Cochrane came into conflict with the authorities when they refused to support his campaign against corruption in the navy. In 1806 Thomas Cochrane met the radical journalist William Cobbett , who had also been involved in attempting to expose corruption in the armed forces. The two men became close friends and Cobbett encouraged Cochrane to win election to the

The Thomas Crown Affair (1999)
A Film Review by James Berardinelli
United States, 1999
U.S. Release Date:
8/6/99 (wide)
Running Length:
MPAA Classification:
R (Sex, nudity, profanity)
Theatrical Aspect Ratio: Cast: Pierce Brosnan, Rene Russo, Denis Leary
Director: John McTiernan
Producers: Pierce Brosnan, Beau St. Clair
Screenplay:
Cinematography:
Tom Priestley
Music: Bill Conti U.S. Distributor: MGM For Pierce Brosnan, the 1999 remake of The Thomas Crown Affair (for which he gets a "producer" credit) is an opportunity to play James Bond without the action sequences. His character here has all of 007's characteristic - he's suave, charismatic, unflappable, and gets the girl. But, unless you count his sailing and gliding expeditions, he never really does anything. Those expecting to see gunfights and explosions have wandered into the wrong theater. The Thomas Crown Affair is about capers and the cat-and-mouse game played by the criminal and the investigators; it's not about the mayhem with which Brosnan has become associated during the past five years. Despite the nearly-perfect casting of Brosnan in the title role, the 1999 version of

In recent years, Kristin Scott Thomas had become Hollywood’s consummate British thespian. If there’s a reserved British role to be had, odds are she’s been offered it. In real life however, Scott Thomas is anything but the posh and polished conservative that most make her out to be. To North Americans, there are basically two types of British people - high brow elitists feasting on tea and crumpets, and low brow, working class pub crawlers. While in reality there is every shade of grey in between these two extremes, if one had to choose, Kristin Scott Thomas’ upbringing would probably lean more towards the pub crawler type. Born in Redruth, Cornwall, England on May 24th, 1960, Kristin had a childhood plagued with unhappiness. Her father, a Royal Air Force pilot, died in an accident when Kristin was only 5. Her mother would later remarry, but lose her second husband, another Royal Air Force pilot, in another accident when Kristin was 11. The tragedies left her mother to look after five children alone, and Kristin - the eldest - had to help her mother bear the burden. Her mother was a proud woman who was determined to have the best for her children - even when it wasn’t what the kids wanted. She did

    39. Morley, Thomas (1557 Or 1558 - 1602)
Biography and discussion of his church music, madrigals, keyboard music, and instrumental music, from Naxos.
    http://www.naxos.com/composer/morley.htm
    Morley, Thomas (1557 or 1558 - 1602)
Morley contributed significantly to the development of the English madrigal, imitated from Italian models. He was probably a pupil of William Byrd, to whom he dedicated his popular book A Plaine and Easie Introduction to Practicall Musicke, published in 1597. Morley was employed at St. Paul's in London and became a Gentleman of the Chapel Royal in 1592, publishing his first set of part-songs in 1593. He was later concerned in printing and publishing music, for which he was granted a share in the monopoly in 1598. Church Music Morley wrote music for the liturgy of the Church of England, service settings, psalm settings and a number of Latin motets, under the influence of Byrd and a possible indication of his own religious sympathies at the time. Of particular interest is the setting of the De profundis, Out of the deep, in a second setting as a verse anthem, a peculiarly English form derived from the consort song of the period, involving the contrast of solo voices with the choir, with instrumental accompaniment from the organ or other groups of instruments. Madrigals It is as a composer of madrigals that Morley is widely known. The Canzonets or Little Short Songs to Three Voyces, published in 1593 were followed by a collection of four-part Madrigals in 1594 and a series of other publications during the decade, some of them adaptations and arrangements of Italian madrigals. In 1601 Morley published the collaborative Triumphs of Oriana, a tribute to Queen Elizabeth for which he collected madrigals by 23 composers as an offering to the aging Arcadian Queen of the Shepherds. Well known madrigals by Morley include Aprill is in my mistris face, My bonny lasse shee smyleth, Now is the month of maying, O sleep, fond fancy, Sing wee and chaunt it, Sweet nymphe, come to thy lover and Though Philomela lost hir love. Solo songs by Morley include It was a lover and his lasse, a song that appears in Shakespeare's pastoral comedy As You Like It.
