Any journalist who called, any TV crew that happened to be passing, any publication that had the time, they all got their interviews. Amitabh went to Sherwood College, a boarding school in Nainital, and then to Kirori Mal College in Delhi University where he earned a double MA. The elder son of Harivansh Rai Bachchan was a former stage actor, radio announcer and freight company executive in Shaw Wallace in Calcutta, before coming to the land of dreams, Bombay (now Mumbai). He had to struggle a lot in Bollywood because of his unconventional looks and his height. At 6’3”, he was considered far too tall by the filmmakers. Here's taking a look at the 59 fascinating aspects to the man who turns 59 on October 11, 2001: Amitabh Bachchan was born in Allahabad on October 11, 1942. A typical Libran, Amitabh exudes charm, and yet has mood swings. He is the son of celebrated poet Harivanshrai Bachchan and Teji Bachchan. He was to be named Inquilab before his father finally agreed upon Amitabh, which means brilliance unlimited. He attended the prestigious Sherwood School, Nainital, and graduated from Kirorimal College, Delhi, although he wanted to have passed through the hallowed portals of St Stephen's College. During his school days, Amitabh dreamt of becoming an engineer. At one point, he even contemplated joining the Indian Air Force. The Big B is ambidextrous, i.e. he can write with both hands. Strangely enough, Amitabh always excelled at science subjects, but fared abysmally in languages. His first ever job was in a company called Shaw Wallace. He also worked as a freight broker for a shipping firm, which went by the name of Bird and Co, drawing a four-figure salary and languishing in the club lands of Calcutta.
