Yannick Beaudoin joined the Scotiabank Lab in September 1998. He holds a BSc in Geology from the University of Ottawa. His undergrad research focused on the isotopic geochemistry, composition and origin of Minette lamprophyre dykes in the eastern Canadian Arctic. In November 1997, an opportunity to study shallow submarine hydrothermal activity at Ambitle Island, Papua New Guinea contributed to Yannick's growing passion for seafloor mineral exploration. For his MSc project he completed a GIS study of the Southern Explorer Ridge located about 200 km west of Vancouver Island, BC. The main goal was to combine bathymetry data, side scan sonar mosaics and underwater video footage, to produce a detailed digital database of the site. His PhD work involves the study of Pb and trace element chemistry in lavas associated with modern seafloor VMS-type deposits. In-situ laser-ablation ICP-MS will be used in the analysis of plagioclase phenocrysts and mafic mineral-hosted melt inclusions to determine the effects of host rock hydrothermal alteration on Pb mobility and to evaluate potential Pb contribution by magmatic degassing.

Project title: The behaviour of gold in submarine massive sulphide deposits Supervisors: Dr L Benning and Professor J R Cann Start date: 1st October 2001
End date: 31st September 2004 Funding body: NERC Studentship
Project description
Gold is mined as a by-product in many volcanogenic massive sulphide deposits around the world. However, the geochemical processes that lead to the formation of gold mineralizations in the largest sub-aerial ore deposits are difficult to interpret because such deposits are often overprinted by metamorphism and deformation and gold will be remobilised and the evidence for its origin and deposition will be concealed. This studentship will focus on analyzing samples from an actively-forming BAB type deposit (Manus Basin) and comparing them with data from MOR and other BAB type environments in order to ascertain the differences in gold mineralization and mechanisms of formation. The Manus basin located at the north eastern tip of Papua New Guinea is one of the recently discovered larger hydrothermal fields that has been drilled by

Binns leads Moseley fightback Jan 27 2003
Moseley 25 Plymouth Albion 24
By Harry Jack, Birmingham Post
The public announcer wished the jubilant Bournbrook crowd a happy new year after Andy Gray's last-minute try sealed a fantastic victory over Plymouth Albion.
We are now three weeks into 2003, but Moseley's campaign - with no pre-season preparation and the side seriously off the pace for much of the last four months - has always been a little behind schedule.
So while the crowd could not have forecast victory - a feeling shared by the coaching staff - the players never gave up, even when luck didn't go their way and their good work seemed to have been lost.
Moseley had to claw their way back from a controversial 19-8 half-time deficit, with Stephen Nutt kicking four second-half penalties in his best game in a red-and-black shirt.
