Sounds like there might be as talk swirls of possible financial problems that may send the independently run Ty Canada into receivership and possibly result in Ty USA stepping in to take control. We have received several notes on the subject and for now have reserved them for our rumor page pending definite confirmation.

3/12/03 Ty Canada A No-Show?
Ty Canada a no-show at the Vancouver Gift Show? Reportedly Ty Canada pulled out after deciding not to participate in the show. Ty Canada had three booths in reserve for the Vancouver Gift Show, which was held at the BC Place Stadium in Vancouver, British Columbia March 9-11. A search of exhibitors showed that Ty (Canada) Inc. was set to be at booths 328,330 and 332. We have highlighted in red the booths that Ty Canada had reserved for the show this year. The first I heard about Lisa Crystal Carver was around 1990, when she was still calling herself LISA SUCKDOG and contributing a sleazy, fucked-up column to some British music magazine I sometimes bought. In this column, she revealed all about her adventures as a teenage prostitute so brazenly that I was sure she was really a man in disguise. Then, five years later, I read some vibrant, funny and very scary prose in the anthology of female music journalism, 'Rock She Wrote'. The piece was called 'Why I Want To Rape Olivia Newton-John (because I'm a troubled young lady)'.

In 1965 Pattie Boyd began writing a colomn for 16 Magazine called Pattie Boyd's "Letter from London," where she would answer questions from teenage girls. Here are two of her articles I have typed out from my two issues. The pictures that follow are from the original magazines as well. Click on an image to view a larger version. April, 1965
    HI, DOLLIES!
Do you day-dream of becoming a famous model overnight? Do you wish a photographer would come up to you as you walk down the street and ask you to pose for Vogue ? Oh, dear, I was the same as you once. But it just didn't happen that way. This is the true story of how I started, told for Teri Lowney of San Fransisco, Calif., and all the others who have written asking the same questions: I wanted to be a model, but I just didn't know how, so I called up a friend at a big magazine. He said to come over to the office. The office was a great building in London full of long corridors, and it didn't take little Pattie long to get lost. There I was, looking at numbers on doors, when a stranger bumped into me. "You a model?" he asked briefly. "Come in here. I can probably use you." Not the romantic approach I'd hoped for! Still, I earned my first fee that way, and he ended by giving me some good advice: "Get a good agent and go to one of the top modeling schools."

A Little History About Old Perlican, Newfoundland
Old Perlican is situated on the southshore of Trinty Bay, 10 km by sea from the tip of Grates's Cove Cape. It is one of the oldest fishing communities in Newfoundland, serving as the major fishing station in Trinity Bay for migratory fishermen from England in the 1600s. Its name has been the subject of some curiosity.
    1. John Biddlecome, 2. Hugh Burt, 3. John Carter (or Garter who had the largest establishment, employing 22 servants), 4. John Corbon 5. John Elliot, 6. John Graize, 7. William Green, 8. John Spikernell 9. Richard Swain, 10. Thomas Taylor, 11. John Witchman Of these Burt and Green were common family names of the community in 1992. "The Old Perlican Warn Ledger" records more surnames of our early residents. This ledger was kept for the years 1749 to 1759 for the accounts of William Warn. From the nature of its contents it appears William Warn was a big planter-fisherman or a fishing supply merchant. The ledger is the oldest exsisting account book of any business record in Newfoundland. Some names in Warn's account book were Burt, Barrett, Button, Bryant, Sparkes, and Harris. It notes that Uriah Mitchell Bursey came to Old Perlican in 1748 and John Tilley came in 1758. In 1697 Pierre *Le Moyne D'Iberville qv judged Old Perlican to be of sufficient importance as to attack and raze it. Old Perlican is not easily defensible, the harbour being broad and open, and it would seem that D'Iberville's attack, and continued fear of French attack through the early 1700s, led the Poole merchants to relocate their major premises to Trinity, 45 km across the Bay. Old Perlican became a fishing outpost of Trinity in the early 1700s, but access to lucrative fishing grounds encouraged at least some fishermen to settle year-round.

Amanda Metcalf, a pitcher for St. Thomas University's softball team, doesn't know Johnny Vander Meer's place in baseball history, but the Bobcats' right-hander recently had a weekend to remember. She didn't pitch back-to-back no-hitters as Vander Meer did for Cincinnati in 1938, but she came within one walk of two perfect games in three starts. In three days, she started and won three games. More impressive, she had a perfect game on the front end where she struck out 12 of the 15 batters she faced, including the first 11 against Ursaline.

Adaptation (STAR)(STAR)(STAR)½ (R) Canal Place. In a mind-bending dramatic comedy from the team responsible for "Being John Malkovich," Nicolas Cage plays screenwriter Charlie Kaufman, struggling to adapt Susan Orlean's nonfiction book "The Orchid Thief" into a screenplay. The lives of Kaufman, Orlean (Meryl Streep) and orchid thief John Laroche (Chris Cooper) become strangely intertwined as each one's search for passion collides with the others'. Tilda Swinton and Cara Seymour co-star. Spike Jonze directs. Stellar performances, especially from Cage and Cooper, and a delightfully twisted screenplay make this film a winner.

Minutes of the Steering Committee Meeting of the Alabama Distance Education Consortium
Department of Postsecondary Education – President’s Conference Room
August 11, 2000; 10:00 a.m. Members present: Joe Morris, Theresa Hamilton, John Reutter, Charlie Cobb, Peggy Linton, Glenda Colagross, Cliff Osborn, Jim Krudop, Rick Boyd, Debbie Grimes, Nancy Corser, Shawn Lockwood. Dr. Joe Morris called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m. and announced a target launch date of Spring Semester 2001 for offering Consortium courses via the Internet. He then stated that the basic idea of the Consortium is to provide a forum for exchanging ideas and experiences in developing distance learning courses and to serve as a clearinghouse for developing, promoting, and assuring quality of distance learning courses and associated material. It is not expected that the Consortium would directly deliver courses or dictate delivery platforms, but rather provide a way to obtain mutual benefit from existing platforms, and perhaps enjoy economies of scale in contracting for platforms. Such products as WebCT, Blackboard, eCollege, FrontPage, and Campus Pipeline were mentioned as examples of platforms that could be supported by the Consortium.
