Dan Brandenstein is the President of the National Space Society. A native of Watertown, Wisconsin. Brandenstein is currently Vice President and Associate Program Manager on the Consolidated Space Operations Contract at Lockheed Martin Space Operations. He has logged flying time in 24 different types of aircraft and has 400 carrier landings. Brandenstein began active duty with the Navy in 1965 and became a NASA astronaut in 1979. A veteran of four space shuttle flights, he has logged over 789 hours in space. From April 1987 through September 1992 Brandenstein served as Chief of the Astronaut Office. Brandenstein retired from NASA and the Navy after receiving two NASA distinguished Service Medals, two NASA Outstanding Leadership Medals, four NASA Space Flight Medals and numerous military honors. He has received the SETP Iven C. Kincheloe Award (1992), and the AIAA Haley Space Flight Award (1993). Brandenstein was pilot for STS-8 (August 30-September 5, 1983) the third flight for the space shuttle Challenger and the first night launch and landing of the shuttle. During this mission the crew deployed the Indian National Satellite (INSAT-1B), tested the Canadian-built Remote Manipulator System (RMS) with the Payload Flight Test Article (PFTA), operated the Continuous Flow Electrophoreses System (CFES) with live cell samples, conducted medical measurements to understand the biophysiological effects of space flight, and activated various Earth resources and space science experiments.

Space Shuttle Astronaut Daniel C. Brandenstein is the President of the National Space Society. A native of Watertown, Wisconsin, Brandenstein graduated from the University of Wisconsin at River Falls. He is currently Executive Vice President and Program Manager of Kistler Aerospace Corporation, Kirkland, Washington. A veteran of four space flights, he has logged over 789 hours in space. Brandenstein served as Chief of the Astronaut Office from April 1987 through September 1992. He retired from NASA and the Navy after receiving two NASA distinguished Service Medals, two NASA Outstanding Leadership Medals, four NASA Space Flight Medals and numerous military honors. He has received the SETP Iven C. Kincheloe Award (1992), and the AIAA Haley Space Flight Award (1993). Brandenstein was pilot for STS-8 (August 30-September 5, 1983) the third flight for the orbiter Challenger and the first night launch and landing. During this mission the crew tested the Canadian-built Remote Manipulator System (RMS). During the seven day mission, STS-51G (June 17-24, 1985), he commanded the crew aboard Discovery deploying four satellites and retrieving SPARTAN.

The Advisory board is the Air Force Aviation Heritage Foundation's panel of renowned and experienced aviators. They have made significant contributions to the American military, space exploration, and the aerospace industry in general. The texts on this page are excerpted without ellipses from the official biographies. Gen. Chuck Horner, USAF (Ret.) General Charles A. Horner, retired from the United States Air Force while serving as the Commander in Chief of the North American Aerospace Defense Command and the United States Space Command and as the Commander of Air Force Space Command. During his career, he commanded two tactical fighter wings, two air divisions, the Air Defense Weapons Center, and Ninth Air Force. As commander of U.S. Central Command Air Forces during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, Horner was in command of all U.S. and allied air assets. Horner is a command pilot with more than 5,500 flying hours in a variety of fighter aircraft. During the Vietnam conflict he flew 111 combat missions in F-105 fighter and F-105F Wild Weasel aircraft.
