Charles Dance Charles Dance (right) Walter Charles Dance was born in Birmingham, England on 10 October 1946. His father Walter, a civil engineer, died when he was four. Charles dropped the Walter from his name as he didn't relish the idea of having the initials WC. He has an older brother, Michael. He married his wife Jo in July 1970 and they have two children, Becky (born 1980) and Oliver (born 1974). They currently live in Somerset. In 1975, after working his way through summer stock and the British repertory system, Charles Dance was invited to join the prestigious Royal Shakespeare Company where he worked exclusively until 1980. During this period, he made numerous appearances, including Fortinbras/Reynolds in Hamlet , Catesby in Richard III The Changeling , Oliver in As You Like It , Lancaster in Henry V , Williams in Henry V , Buckingham in Henry VI Part II , Freeman in The Jail Diary of Albie Sachs and Tullus Aufidius in Coriolanus . During a tour with the Company in New York he took over the title role in Henry V and then subsequently played the title role in Coriolanus whilst on tour in Paris.

Dance pioneer May O'Donnell Marlena Hubley '06 says she has also developed as a dancer during the last three weeks. "At first, the technical difficulty was daunting, and I have the bruises to prove it," says Hubley, demonstrating a deep back bend that once would have toppled her. "But it has been empowering to learn new steps and kind of spiritual to learn the history of the piece." O'Donnell created the thirteen-minute composition in 1943, inspired by T. S. Eliot's words, which she often includes with program notes: "At the still point of the turning world . . . . there the dance is."

Charles "Honi" Coles On this date in 1911 Charles “Honi” Coles was born. He was an African American Tap dancer. A native of Philadelphia, PA. Coles developed his high-speed rhythm tapping on the streets of his hometown.
He first came to New York as one of the Three Millers, who danced on top of pedestals, executing difficult steps such as barrel turns, wings, and over-the-tops on tiny platforms. Coles’ second stint in New York occurred in 1934, opening at the Apollo Theater. He soon earned the reputation as having the “fastest feet in the business,” and was hailed as being an extremely graceful dancer.
During the 1980s, Coles taught dance and dance history at Yale, Cornell, Duke, and George Washington University. Singer Lena Horne once said of Coles, “Honi makes butterflies look clumsy. He was my Fred Astaire.” Charles “Honi” Coles died on November 12, 1992.

At the peak of the Blitz . Every night wave after wave of Nazi bombers brought death and destruction. But the British people stood firm, determined to hold out at any cost. In Contrast to this heroic introduction, the first images of White Mischief are supposed to show the decadence of the British upper class. Fighter aircraft fly over the roof of a manor house. Lord Henry "Jock" Broughton (Joss Ackland) walks down the stairs leading to his garden. He tells his tax advisor that he wants to sell the estate and move to Africa. His consultant advises him against it since landed property is the best investment in war times. The elderly Lord Broughton replies: And if we lose the war, have you ever thought about that? Then, beautiful and young Diana (Greta Scacchi) approaches them riding a horse.
The same evening, Diana tells her friend Hugh (Hugh Grant) that she loves elderly men because they have more money. Later, in an underground shelter she proposes a toast to the lions, tigers and rich men to be encountered in Africa (as Lord Broughton's wife). Hugh replies that there are no tigers but "ostriches, baboons and hyenas" - more than a "hint" by director Michael Radford towards the people Diana is about to encounter in Kenya. She also drinks to her - future - honesty (wishful thinking?).
