Tech Magazines - FREE DEALTRACKER Dr. Drew Flies the Koop by Kelly Black November 3, 2000 - Drkoop.com NASDAQ:KOOP ) announced plans to acquire drDrew.com for 1.58 million shares of common stock and roughly $150,000 in cash. Based on drkoop.com's buck-o-five share price, the deal is tentatively worth about $1.5 million. The going-out-of-business sale officially marks the end of the ex-MTV pop-psychologist's attempt to pan for Net gold, while flushing a fistful of venture capital money down the commode. Sherwood Partners , an advisory firm that specializes in working with struggling start-ups in search of "exploring strategic alternatives," handled the clean-up duties. In a nutshell, the company pawned drDrew.com for the trifling sum of $150,000 in cash, because as we all know, drkoop.com won't be around in a year to make good on the million plus shares worth of restricted stock.

And I'd say overall, it's likely that he is significantly MORE libertarian than Paglia. But that's sort of beside the point, which is that it would seem MOST libertarians are eager to draft P.J. as one of their own DESPITE the fact that he has, at least on this one occassion, implied that he WASN'T one. Kevin: Right. Same could be said of figures such as Thomas Sowell, Walter Williams, and perhaps Milton Friedman. I see your point. Ray: So, again, I think it'd be misguided, or at least inconsistent, to hold ole Camille up to the light of scrutiny for maintaining that she WAS. Kevin: I suppose. She's just so all over the place. I think it would be irresponsible to say to a non-libertarian that Paglia is an example of a libertarian. I'm tiring of this conversation. BTW, if you want to add your two cents, this very topic was brought up on the ifeminists.com board very recently. Ray: (Am I just being a major pain the ass? I get the feeling I am. I guess that just shows that I've missed this place. :-))

In-Reply-To: Is Dr. Drew a libertarian? posted by Kevin B. O'Reilly on 5:51:11 PM 30 Jun 2001 : That said, it would be easier to take Paglia's word for it if she didn't also consistently describe herself as a liberal Democrat (which she has). This is true, but then, P.J. O'Rourke almost always describes himself as a "conservative Republican." When we had him out to speak at the Independent Institute when I was still there, he actually used this phrasing "whether you're a conservative like I am, or a libertarian, like I imagine many in the audience are..." So, in that case, he wasn't just applying the term conservative in addition to libertarian (as Ron Paul usually does) but rather, demarking that he considered himself the former and not the latter. Now, I happen to think P.J. O'Rourke, despite his some of his views on the military, IS a libertarian. Jun. 15, 1998 Dr. Drew, After-Hours Guru BY HARRIET BAROVICK Kids aren't supposed to be tuning in to Dr. Drew Pinsky on Loveline, MTV's popular nightly call-in show on relationships. The program is aimed at young adults, and, Pinsky says, younger teens shouldn't watch it without a parent nearby. But they manage to. Sometimes because of a technicality: the show airs at 10 p.m. in the Central time zone instead of 11 p.m., as it does on the East and West coasts. But mainly because the subject is sex. And if sex is on the tube, adolescents are sure to find a way of getting to itand talking about it. And what do kids see? This scene, for example: Dr. Drew... The complete article is 600 words long. Dr. Charles Richard Drew Anyone whose life has been saved by a blood transfusion has Dr. Charles Richard Drew to thank. Dr. Drew was the medical researcher who discovered the way to store blood for long terms, making blood banks possible. Charles Richard Drew was born in 1904, in Washington D.C. He was an exceptional student who excelled in sports as well as academics. When he lost a younger sister to tuberculosis, he developed an interest in becoming a doctor. He received an athletic scholarship to Amherst College in Massachusetts, where he became captain of the track team and also distinguished himself as a football player. He graduated from Amherst with honors in 1926 and went on to teach biology, chemistry, and physical education. In 1926 he entered the Medical School at McGill University, Canada's most prestigious institution of higher learning. At McGill, he became interested in blood research, and in 1933 received the degrees of Doctor of Medicine and Master of Surgery; he was second in his class of 137 graduates. Drew completed several internships in Canada, where he continued his research on blood chemistry. He then accepted a teaching position at Howard University and later won a fellowship to conduct research at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York. It was at Columbia Presbyterian that Dr. Drew made a breakthrough discovery that if red blood cells could be removed from whole blood, the fluid that remained, plasma, could be preserved over long periods

GetSchooled's Report on The Dr. Drew and Adam Book: A Survival Guide to Life and Love (Page 1 of 7) The Nutshell: Useful, realistic advice given with a healthy dose of humor and compassion Summary: First of all, let it be said that Dr. Drew and Adam are great . They've heard it all and they know from dealing with the weirdest of the weird what's going on and why people act the way they do; Adam provides the common sense and Drew provides the medical facts. We sincerely believe the world would be a better place if everyone heard and followed through on their advice, and you would do well to simply buy the book right now and read it as soon as you get it.

04/01/2001 - Updated 03:16 PM ET Dr. Drew rocks the world of recovery By W. Reed Moran, Spotlight Health With medical adviser Stephen A. Shoop, M.D. Dr. Drew Pinsky. Sex, drugs and rock 'n roll consume virtually every minute of Dr. Drew Pinsky's life. But his wife and children don't seem to mind. They even applaud his obsession. That's because "Dr. Drew," the host of Loveline and Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus , is a voice of sanity in a sea of pop culture madness. And what amazes even him even more is that young people are listening. "After 18 years of doing my radio show, I just got lucky," says Pinsky, who is an addiction medicine specialist practicing at Las Encinas Hospital in Pasadena, Calif.. "The new, new thing in rock 'n roll is sobriety, and my message is happy to get taken along for the ride." Pinsky reports that there is a grass roots effort in the music community, from Eric Clapton to Scott Weiland of Stone Temple Pilots, spreading the word that creativity and addiction are "a marriage made in hell."
