An extra-inning home run by catcher Jamie Krusinsky (Shenandoah, Pa./Shenandoah) led No. 4-seed Saint Francis University to a 7-5 victory over No. 1 Long Island University in an elimination game of the 2002 Northeast Conference Softball Tournament at Hawks Park in West Long Branch, N.J., on Saturday afternoon.
Brooke Keiper (Johnstown, Pa./Greater Johnstown) led off the bottom of the eighth inning with a single up the middle, setting up Krusinsky’s two-run blast to leftfield off Long Island starter Crystal Eubanks (LaPalma, Calif./Kennedy).
The home run was Krusinsky’s second of the game. Her first shot capped off a five-run, score-tying rally in the bottom of the fifth inning for Saint Francis (28-23-1). The inning started off with a pair of walks issued by LIU’s newly inserted reliever Jackie Brown (Westminster, Calif./Fountain Valley) to Suzy Ernst (Clear Spring, Md./Clear Spring) and Nyki DeNinno (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional). Eubanks re-entered the game for the Blackbirds and retired the first batter on a sacrifice bunt. Stacy Scofield (Stewartstown, Pa./Kennard-Dale) reached on an error by the Long Island first baseman, allowing Ernst to score. Sarah Rebar (Ramey, Pa./Moshannon Valley) drove in DeNinno with a single up the middle, putting runners at the corners. With two outs, Krusinsky delivered a moon shot to left centerfield, tying the score at 5-5.

Depositions from the Estate File of William Ridge Captain Francis Bradley, a member of the Mecklenburg County, North Carolina Militia (Patriot) and Sheriff of the same county, was killed in 1780 in Mecklenburg County by Tories (1). " A noted character of the Revolutionary days was Capt. Francis Bradley, a true patriot, who took an active part in the skirmish of McIntyre's Branch and was murdered November 14, 1780, by a small band of Tories. Physically he was said to be the strongest man in the county. " (1) General Joseph Graham related the story of Francis Bradley's death at the hands of four Tories named Griffin, Ridge, John McCombs, and Robert McCombs "When the British were on their retreat from Charlotte, near Old Nation Ford, four of [Colonel Samuel] Bryan's men agreed to desert and go home by travelling in the night and lying in the thickets during the day; their names were They had taken up in a thicket a mile from Bradley's on the morning of October [14th]. About mid day Bradley took his gun and went out to hunt some missing cattle, came on the two of them, and began to question them, and finally took them prisoners. The other two, who had been lying about twenty steps off, and whom he had not seen, came behind him and siezed him; a violent scuffle ensued, until one of them got his own gun and shot him dead. Bradley was a very stout man, and with out weapons would have been a match for all four of them; a man of cool and deliberate courage, much respected by all who knew him, and his death much regretted. A few weeks after his murderers went home

    By Tim Ryan

Sometimes you have to walk around the block several times before you realize how easy it is to just cross the street. Ask Stacy Francis, star of the gospel-based "Sing and Shout," which plays in Honolulu tomorrow and Saturday at the Blaisdell Arena. "I guess you could say the Lord first hit with me a pebble, then a rock, and finally a boulder to get my attention," Francis, 23, said in a telephone interview from Tokyo. "Now I couldn't be happier or better." "I was troubled by what I was doin'," she said. "I grew up in the church, a pastor's kid, a PK. And here I was singing and doin' stuff I was embarrassed to tell people about. The lyrics were quite sexual, very explicit; people knew us for that." But the group's contract, Francis said, required them to sing whatever they were given and dance the way it was choreographed. "I felt so uncomfortable, but I was young and confused and I didn't really know who I was so I just kept on doin what I was told." After about four years with ExGirlfriend, Francis was asked to rejoin the musical play "Mama, I Want to Sing" in London. Francis, who had performed with the show when she was 15, jumped at the chance.
