OCSN Newswire

April 18, 2001 What did Lindsay Davis expect during her first season of Missouri gymnastics? "Not this," the freshman says with a smile. `This' is a likely berth in the NCAA Midwest Regional meet. And what would be a far cry from Davis' career at Missouri started. Davis' first-year campaign began in the typical freshman fashion - with overactive nerves. "Coming in, I was nervous because I wasn't sure how often I'd get to compete," she says. "It's hard not knowing what to expect." New faces, new atmosphere, new system and just plain newness are often the recipe for uneasiness. To add to the mix, Davis joined the Tigers squad as a walk-on, a decision she made just two months prior to shipping off to Columbia. "I was actually planning to go to Oklahoma," the Derby, Kan., native says. "I came in May on a visit to Missouri, and I liked it so much better than Oklahoma, so I decided for sure in June that I was going to come (to Columbia).

Lindsay Hollister of "Boston Public." Plus-Size Kids in Hollywood March 01, 2002 From a " Boston Public " student to HALLE BERRY 's son in ' Monster's Ball ,' young plus-size stars in Hollywood deal with make-believe issues in their scripts and real-life weight problems. Tonight on ET, we take a look at what being overweight in Hollywood means to these young performers, both on and off the screen.
LINDSAY HOLLISTER has played many small roles on television, from " ER " and " The Drew Carey Show " to " Popular " and " Days of Our Lives ." But one of the most challenging roles she's taken on is the one in DAVID E. KELLEY 's "Boston Public," where she plays a character with the unfortunate nickname, "The Blob."
"I was scared because it was tackling a role that dealt with something that I've dealt with being made fun of every single day," Lindsay tells ET, "all through elementary school, middle school and most of high school."
Lindsay, a tough-spirited twenty-something who often plays teens on television, has always stood up to those who challenged her, maintaining her determination to pursue her dream of being an actress.

Lindsay had a long and varied career in the field of agriculture. Following graduation, he taught high school agriculture in Fresno, Los Molinos, and La Puente. While at Los Molinos he married fellow teacher Lorna Sauber. In 1941 he was appointed to the Animal Husbandry staff at Cal Poly SLO where he taught feeds and feeding and swine production. He resigned in 1946 to manage a dairy ranch near Lodi and ship cattle to Hawaii. In 1951-2 Lindsay returned to Davis as an instructor and manager of the farm practice program, teaching practical farm skills and overseeing students in summer farm and ranch internships. From 1952 to 1963 he managed large beef cattle operations, first for the Fred H. Bixby Company, a cow/calf operation where he was also involved in raising and showing Appaloosa and Shire horses, then for the Hollister Company, importing feeder steers from Mexico. After Lindsay's wife, Lorna, was killed in an automobile accident in 1962, he married Alyce Williams Lowrie, the first female student at Davis to earn a baccalaureate degree. They lived in Davis for several years while Lindsay taught at Winters High School. After his retirement he was active in the community food pantry and as president of the Fort Crook Historical Society in Fall River Mills. Lindsay and Alyce were recognized jointly by the Cal Aggie Alumni Association with the Distinguished Achievement Award in 1987. He also received the UC Davis College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Award of Distinction in 1990 and was elected to the UC Davis Aggie Athletic Hall of Fame in 1993. The couple established the Alyce Williams-Lindsay Jewett Fund for short-term student loans.

LAND O'LAKES She has spent the past two seasons wrestling some of the most skilled and seasoned wrestlers in Pasco County. The upside to being put on her backside by bigger, stronger, more experienced boys, according to Dana Kearney, is that when she wrestles within her gender, when she takes on another girl, well, it's just not nearly the same thing. Which is bad news for her opponent. "I feel a lot stronger," she said. "Wrestling with the boys, they have a lot more endurance, they're real strong and a lot more experienced than the rest of the girls. "When I go out and wrestle girls, I manhandle them all." Which is why Kearney and fellow Gator Jessica Worthington are in the unique but no longer unusual position of competing in Saturday's second annual Ladies Wrestling State Tournament at Ovideo. Like youth football, seeing girls in wrestling singlets is no longer an unusual sight at the collegiate, amateur or high school level. Florida is one of the leaders in this emerging sport, and though Saturday's tournament is not sanctioned by the Florida High School Activities Association, it is the de facto championship.
