Bridgeman, Flight Sergeant Russell J, RAF - from the Summer 1961 SG
Flight Sergeant Bridgeman was one of six RAF personnel killed in an Avro Anson which crashed in the Isle of Man in February 1961. Rusty, as he was known to his contemporaries, had joined the RAF as Boy Entrant and was engaged on work at the Technical Training Command Communications Flight at RAF Wyton.
Capes, Officer Cadet Colin J, RAF (entry 1958) - from the Summer 1966 SG
Colin Capes died in a climbing accident in the Peak District, at the age of 19 - a sad end to a career of promise. He always wished to make the RAF his career and had many disappointments before he succeeded. He entered the RAF as an Officer Cadet at the RAF's own college at Cranwell, last autumn.
Always cheerful, bubbling with life and energy, he was an invigorating personality. His contemporaries will always remember his throaty chuckle, and the quips and opinions which ensured that no lesson became tedious. So much a part of our school life, he is a friend we shall feel the loss of in the adult world.
Cazenave, Dave

Welcome to my website!
I am a professional photographer shooting opera and theatre performances around the world.
This website contains a sampling of my photographs from opera companies ranging from San Diego to Santa Fe and St. Louis, to the Metropolitan Opera, the Paris Opera and many places in between. I've shot remarkable productions like David Hockney's Turandot and Francesca Zambello's Madama Butterfly (San Diego Opera/Houston Opera) and Julie Taymor's Flying Dutchman (L.A. Opera), and photographed such stars as Pat Racette, Jerry Hadley, Suzanne Mentzer, Placido Domingo, Sam Ramey, Richard Bernstein, Elizabeth Futral and others.
You will also see photos from theatres around the United States, including performances of Broadway shows, and TV and movie stills.
I've thrown in miscellaneous pics of things that interest me outside of or peripheral to the theatre. All the photos are thumbnailed and can be enlarged with a click, and, of course, can be purchased and delivered by e-mail. You can search for a specific Opera, Play, Conductor or Artist from the "images page"
If you would like to contact me, feel free to send me e-mail using the button provided. Enjoy your visit!

Greetings! Welcome to The Business of Freelance Writing. Over the next few weeks/months, I am looking forward to divulging all my secrets about becoming successful at freelance writing (rule # 1: always grovel before editors). I am particularly looking forward to learning about you, why you are interested in freelance writing and what goals you have in mind for yourself. Because you are trailblazers in being the first participants in this seminar, you will have a big role in shaping our discussions. Please ask a ton of (thoughtful) questions, and do not hesitate to bring up topics you are interested in but that we have not covered. To help guide us, below is a rough outline for the seminar:

    who owns what
in association with Contents Books TOP OF THE HEAP by Howard Kurtz
Kurtz covers the media for The Washington Post. There is a marvelous scene at the start of this book in which Lawrence Grossman, then the president of NBC News, hosts a dinner party for Jack Welch, the chairman of General Electric, NBC's corporate parent, and other company bigwigs. Grossman wants to talk about news, but Welch and NBC president Robert Wright keep sneaking upstairs to watch the sixth game of the 1986 World Series. There is so much sports banter that Grossman's wife is left feeling that her party, in Wright's words, had been "interrupted by people who are talking in Yugoslavian" a language, of course, that doesn't exist. That is the theme that runs through this impressively researched volume the jarring clash of cultures between the driven humorless, penny-pinching men who have taken control of the three major television networks, and the crusading, irreverent, cost-be-damned journalists who regard their calling as a sacred priesthood. Still, there are startling insights into the values of the corporate czars who now rule the networks. We learn that when Jack Welch exclaims, "This is the greatest day of my life!" it is because GE stock has just hit a new high. That Welch once asked why the Today show couldn't charge authors for book interviews. That Bob Wright wondered whether stars like Don Johnson of Miami Vice could host NBC news documentaries.

Actor Ken Howard poses on the set of NBC's "Crossing Jordan," at Universal Studios in Los Angeles, Dec. 18, 2002. Howard plays Max Cavanaugh on the show, an ex-cop with a lot of street smarts and some dark secrets. He's the father of title character Dr. Jordan Cavanaugh, played by Jill Hennessy, a medical examiner working in the Massachusetts state coroner's office. The show airs Mondays at 10 p.m.m Eastern. (AP Photo/Lee Celano) TV veteran Ken Howard finds it easy 'Crossing Jordan'
The Associated Press LOS ANGELES (AP) The more years Ken Howard works, the more of himself he sees in the characters he portrays. "You unavoidably bring who you are to roles and who you are, we would hope, would be a little richer and a little fuller when you're older," says the 58-year-old actor. He agrees with something the late Rosemary Clooney said when asked why, despite declining vocal range and breath control, her singing got even better as she aged. "She said, 'Oh that's easy. I don't have to show off anymore. I just have to serve the song,"' recalls Howard. He adds, "I just have to serve the text."

    Howard Fast
A former Communist and lifelong dissident ends up rich and beloved in capitalist America
    By Ken Gross
Howard Fast is rich. Not filthy rich, like the plutocrats he has denounced in such left-leaning novels as Freedom Road and Spartacus . He just has a portfolio of a million or two. "Government bonds," he says defiantly. "Not a penny in unearned wealth. Just the sweat of my own labor and some Treasury notes."
It is no small paradox, considering that this is a stone-stubborn leftist who went to jail rather than surrender names to the House Un-American Activities Committee, then went broke publishing his own books when he was blacklisted. Afterward he reconstructed his career by outwriting the right. (Worldwide sales of more than 50 novels are estimated to exceed 80 million copies, and he has also written 20 nonfiction books and 10 plays.) He used the pen name E.V. Cunningham for a mystery series and his own name for a string of best-selling historical novels.

In defence of the 'Pacific solution'.
    By Ken Parish
Posted 15/05/02 Sign up here for free email updates! The current politically correct view of the 'Tampa' crisis, and the subsequent ad hoc development of the 'Pacific solution', is that both were just cynical, electorally-driven exercises. However, is that really the case? Although party political factors were clearly decisive in the way 'Tampa' and the 'Pacific solution' were portrayed by the Coalition during the federal election campaign, it may be that the strategies themselves were legitimate policy responses to very real threats. An 'illegal' asylum seeker arrival rate of 5 -10,000 people per year is much lower than some European countries, but it is nevertheless a significant number about which any responsible government should be concerned. Professor Geoffrey Blainey was howled down when he suggested some years ago that Australia should pay attention to the numbers, pace and ethnic mix of our migration intake. However, these are very real issues if we wish to maintain our proud record of popular support for the migration program, and continue integrating migrants smoothly and harmoniously into one of the world's most successful multi-cultural societies.
