Recent Trends in the Marketing of Homeopathy
By Daniel R. Barnett
You can't get away from it. Everywhere you go, at every supermarket or pharmacy, you'll probably find at least one homeopathic remedy on the shelf. I've even walked into a travel store and found a homeopathic remedy for airsickness. And you never know where the next box of homeopathic StressMints will pop up. Do these pills breed like rabbits or something? I should probably ask the same question of Oscillococcinum, Boiron's own homeopathic flu remedy; I'm seeing it in more and more drug stores as time goes by. Today, however, I don't want to focus on StressMints or Oscillococcinum. I want to focus on some other homeopathic drugs and the way they're being marketed, as well as some of the strategies that are being discussed to sell homeopathy to the American public. Did Someone Say the H-Word?

States Dyckman
was born about 1755 on the family farm in northern Manhattan. He was the fourth of the ten children of Jacob Dyckman - a farmer and innkeeper. His father was descended from one of early inhabitants of Beverwyck , although the Dyckmans had not lived in Albany for almost a century. After an unremarkable childhood, States Dyckman had relocated to Albany by the time of his father's untimely death in 1774. Soon, he was keeping company with prominent Albany royalists and was among those drinking to the King's health at Cartwright's Tavern in June 1776. Arrested with the others, he refused to support American resistance measures and was sent to the Tory jail. Summoned before the Albany Committee of Correspondence , he declined the invitation, was denounced as "uncooperative," and remained in jail. After more posturing, he was released on bail and eventually made his way to British-occupied New York City where he entered British service with the Quartermaster's Department. Profiting from wartime trading and contracting, this bachelor frequented both Manhattan and occupied Long Island. In 1779, he was sent to London to represent the accounts of the Quartermaster General. He stayed more than two years - cultivating useful relationships with British officials, other exiled American loyalists, and, as was his custom, with a variety of women from a range of backgrounds.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT WEST FORD
The following is a list of responses to questions frequently posed to the Ford Family about their claim to be the descendants of George Washington.* QUESTION : Was West Ford a slave of George Washington's? FORD FAMILY : West Ford was the slave of George Washington's favorite brother, John Augustine Washington. John Augustine and his wife, Hannah, owned the Bushfield plantation where West and his mother, Venus resided. QUESTION : When was West Ford born? FORD FAMILY :No one is sure of the exact date of West Ford's birth. This is because the birth dates of slaves were generally not recorded. Literature has reported dates from 1784 to 1786. In a register dated October 17, 1831 for free blacks living in Fairfax County, Virginia, there is a reference to West Ford being 47 years of age that would suggest that he had to be born in 1784. Another entry dated March 3, 1839 gives his age as 54 and would suggest that West Ford was born in 1785. West Ford's obituary printed in the Alexandria Gazette stated that he died at the age of 79 in July 1863, making the year he was born 1784. Historian and reporter, Benson Lossing, wrote an article in 1858 on West Ford, commenting that West was 72 years old making 1786 as the year he was born. In the list of John Augustine Washington's Negroes dated 3rd March 1783, there is no mention of West. Only Billey, Jenny (West's grandparents) and Venus were listed as slaves. (From J. A. Washington's Ledger C, RM-73, MS-2166).

A Brief History of Western Herbal Medicine
Medicinal Practices in Primitive Societies
Herbal medicine is one of the oldest forms of healing. Our most primitive forbears made abundant use of available plants to treat illness and injury. The majority of this early plant-based knowledge was gained through empirical evidence. The choice of plants to be used in a particular case was based on the outcome of previous choices, and then that information was consistently passed down from one generation to the next. Knowledge grew as early populations migrated to new lands and discovered and experimented with new plants. In "primitive" societies, there were distinct roles for both the shaman and the healer. The shaman, generally a male, focused on the spiritual health of the community. The healer, generally a female, was responsible for the physical well being of the community. The healer's treatments utilized plants extensively. Each community developed their own form of treatments based on the availability of plants in their local environment.
Early Herbal Leaders
Some of the earliest writings to be discovered were focused on plants. Several early herbals, or writings of botanical remedies, have been collected. The Chinese herbal

The American Red Double-cross By
Dr. Len Horowitz Sandpoint, Idaho-The American Red Cross (ARC) is widely considered a great American institution. It is generally thought of as among the world's premier humanitarian organizations. Clearly, almost everyone thinks of it as a life-saving agency. Most people know this non-governmental organization (NGO) to be heavily dependant upon the blood and currency generously donated by the American people. But, what if all of the above is untrue? What if everything you think you know about the American Red Cross is a ghastly nauseating lie? My name is Dr. Leonard Horowitz. What I am about to share with you is deeply disturbing, yet potentially life-saving. The American Red Cross is not what it appears to be. . . . And I urge you to continue reading so that you learn what the ARC really represents.
