Scotland Braces for Media Storm
Well, quelle surprise. With the publication Thursday of one little notice in the Registrar's Office of Dornoch, Scotland, months of rumors settled into confirmed fact. Guy Stuart Ritchie, 32, will marry Madonna Louise Ciccone, 42, on December 22. Any hopes the couple may entertain for a quiet wedding are unlikely to find fulfillment. Media representatives and celebrity spotters have already snapped up every hotel, guest house and bed-and-breakfast spot in the vicinity. Among the glitterati expected to attend: Gwyneth Paltrow, Brad Pitt, Jennifer Aniston and Sting. And the rumor mill continues to churn: despite the cathedral setting, Britain's Sun paper reported the Material Mom wants a Buddhist ceremony; and according to the BBC, Ritchie will walk the aisle in full Highland gear. The newlyweds can't even expect to get any peace within the walls of their hotel, Skibo Castle. Traditionally, a bagpiper awakens guests at 8:15 am every morning for breakfast.

Werner Klemperer played "Col. Klink"
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS New York - Werner Klemperer, a Jewish refugee from NAZI Germany who went on to play the monocled German Prison-camp commandant Col. Klink on TV's "Hogan's Heroes," has died. He was 80. Klemperer died of cancer Wednesday December 6th at his home in New York said his publicist Bernie Ilson. He also received a Tony Nomination in 1988 as a feature actor in a musical for his role in Hal Prince's revival of "Cabaret." Klemperer's film credits included "Death of a scoundrel," "The Goddess," "Judgment at Nuremberg," and "Ship of Fools." http://www.mishalov.com/Klemperer.html
Werner Klemperer in 1969 as Col. Klink in the "Hogan's Heroes" television show. Werner Klemperer, Col. Klink in TV's 'Hogan's Heroes,' Dies at 80 By Bernard Weintraub, , December 8, 2000 Werner Klemperer, an Emmy Award-winning actor in television, film and theater whose role as the bumbling Nazi Col. Wilhelm Klink on "Hogan's Heroes" dominated an eclectic career, died on Wednesday at his home in New York. He was 80. The cause was cancer, said John A. Anderson, his manager. A love of music dominated the life of Mr. Klemperer, the son of the conductor Otto Klemperer, who was the music director for the Los Angeles Philharmonic. The younger Mr. Klemperer performed in many opera productions and, in the last two decades, served as narrator with virtually every symphony orchestra in the United States. His narration of Mozart's "Impresario" with the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra was broadcast by PBS on "Live From Lincoln Center." But what stamped his career, and made him famous, was his role in the lowbrow "Hogan's Heroes," the successful and unlikely sitcom set in a German prisoner-of-war camp during World War II. The show, which ran on CBS from 1965 to 1971, starred Mr. Klemperer as the monocled and inept Nazi commandant of the camp in which the American prisoners, led by Col. Robert Hogan (played by Bob Crane), actually controlled the camp. Mr. Klemperer, whose Jewish family had escaped Germany in the 1930's for Los Angeles, found the role a double-edged sword. "He sometimes felt he was too identified with that character," his wife, Kim Hamilton Klemperer, said. "But it had such a major impact on his career. He loved it when people stopped him on the street. The fan mail he still gets is unbelievable." (The series has been rebroadcast on TV Land).

Werner Klemperer
, the man guaranteed tube immortality as the bumbling Colonel Klink on TV's Hogan's Heroes , has died at the age of 80. Klemperer's publicist says the actor had been battling cancer and died Wednesday at his home in New York. On CBS from 1965-1971 (and still going strong in reruns), Hogan's Heroes showed the wacky side of World War II German POW camps. The manic, monocled Klink lorded over Stalag 13 in name onlythe camp was really run by the prisoners under the leadership of Colonel Robert Hogan (Bob Crane). a d v e r t i s e m e n t
Although he'll forever be known as the commandant of Stalag 13, Klemperer, a Jew, actually fled Nazi Germany in the 1930s and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. In fact, Klemperer only agreed to do the sitcom if producers promised never to have Klink succeed in his schemes, which, of course, he never did. As his plots fell apart, the exasperated Klink would shout his trademark line: "Hooooogan!" Klemperer received Emmy nominations all six years of the show's run, winning the trophy twice, in 1968 and '69.

Werner Klemperer
Best known as Col. Klink on the 60s hit series
HOGAN'S HEROES
A series that has found new life in syndication, both here in North America and oddly enough also in Germany.
The interview aired on Tuesday, June 11, 1996 at 8:30pm eastern with Peter Anthony Holder
the evening open-line talk show host on
CJAD 800 AM , Montreal CJAD: Mr. Klemperer, how are you. WERNER: Fine. CJAD: Thank you for joining us this evening. I'd like to know a little bit about your portrayal in that particular television show. The fact that here we are 30 years later talking about a show that admittedly was a big hit. You won two Emmys for it. But 30 years later they are still talking about it. Did you think that was possible when you did that show back then. WERNER: Well, I don't know if we thought that was possible at the time, but we knew we had a good thing. We didn't actually quite know how long it would run. We knew when we did the pilot that we had every chance of getting on the air. I wasn't too surprised with most of the rerun market, but I will tell you that the last few years it's really been, particularly in the States, the reruns have been very powerful, because of this five day a week deal on all the local stations and it seems as if we keep getting a new audience all the time.

Werner Klemperer
This stuff is from the kooky : Mahatma Randy at Mahatmarandy@msn.com a far better expert on Mr. Klemperer than I shall ever be. Click here , dang it and look at his Hogan costume page. After he wrote this history of Mister Klemperer, someone wrote him about Klink. Mahatma said "Yeah, I got one E-mail from a guy who's mom had dated Werner Klemperer for a few years in WWII, when they were both USO entertainers. Werner had recently died, and his mom had revealed their affair to him. He was quite shocked, and was trying to find out anything he could about Werner, sort of as a present to his mom, to see if he ever thought about her, talked about her, whatever, in the 60 years since. He assumed from my article on your page that I knew more about him than I did. We talked a couple times, and he disappeared." So by reading that paragraph, its' like YOU have slept with Klink. I'm impressed! The first season (64/65) seems to mostly chronicle 1974/75, while the later seasons take place anywhere from '75 to 1980, in no particular chronological order. an episode in '80 could be followed by one in '76, for instance.
