Extracts from the reviews: "So not every young film star need strip to the bare essentials on stage to score a hit with the heavy breathers - let alone more serious theatre-goers. Last night Ewan McGregor, who has shown himself not averse to dropping his trousers in the cause of art, made a most impressive London theatre debut and revealed he is far more than just a pretty cinematic face and body. Playing Malcolm, the crazy, mixed-up art student who wants to rule the world but cannot even screw up the courage to invite a girl to bed, McGregor damps down his famous sex appeal, sports a fuzzy beard and turns in a seriously funny comic performance... dance destinations film ... archives Little Malcolm and His Struggle Against the Eunuchs Little Malcolm David Halliwell's Little Malcolm and His Struggle Against the Eunuchs was first performed in 1965, directed by Mike Leigh and with Halliwell in the title role. It was produced both in the West End and on Broadway and remains, arguably, the author's most successful work. Halliwell won the Evening Standard 's Most Promising Playwright award in 1967. While he remains a prolific writer, notably of radio plays for the BBC, nothing he has done since has attracted the same degree of attention or public interest.
Malcolm Scrawdyke, expelled from his Huddersfield art college, persuades fellow students Ingham, Wick and Nipple to join him in forming the Party of Dynamic Erection. Confident that the youth of the nation will rush to join them, their only worry, as expressed by Ingham, is whether they will have enough chairs. Their first revolutionary act will be to humiliate the college's principal. Meanwhile, Scrawdyke agonizes over his complete failure to attract the attention of fellow student, Ann.
The first Act comprises a series of brilliantly funny set pieces during which the students plan their attack. The production resolutely concentrates on the comic aspects of this while playing down some of their relish in the violence.

Booted out of art school, misfit John Hurt uses his anger to organize a radical anti-establishment organization with two fellow malcontents. What seems at first attractive and trendy turns out to be a dangerous neo-fascist movement. David Warner costars as Hurt's erudite political foe, who finds it hard to stand up against the raw persuasive energy of demagoguery. Ex-Beatle George Harrison produced this searing sociopolitical tome. The film was originally released as

The play's the thing and I don't care what kind of fame he has gleaned from the films he's been in or that he's rich or that he's undeniably gorgeous in an out-of-the-ordinary way. He is-and I don't use the term lightly or often-breathtaking. Sitting in the back of a 174 seat theatre, you might as well be in the guy's living room, which is about right as the action takes place in his hovel of a room somewhere above Huddersfield. He's not an actor on a stage. He's not a movie star. He's just a guy and he's talking to you. You can see from the back row of the theatre that his eyes shine. They positively glow. With his beard he's like Santaall round glowing cheeks and a twinkle in his eye. But the kind of Santa that, given the chance, you'd shag without a moment's thought. Without a choice really. Ewan's not the only amazing thing about Little Malcolm. The play's the thing. The dialogue is quick-fire and cock-sure. An enormous number of words to have to memorise and to deliver in style. It's an ensemble piece and the ensemble is tremendous. I guess if you're Ewan McGregor and you want to do a play you can get pretty much whichever actors you want. And whoever chose them chose well. There's Sean Gilder, the gawky yet intellectual Nipple, Nicolas Tennant as Ingham, awkward and shy, and Joe Duttine as Wick, the perfect yes-man to Ewan's Scrawdyke. Thank God we get to see it twice.
Liz Bartholomew I can't comment properly on our first viewing of Little Malcolm because I teetered on the edge of exhaustion. Also we were sitting in the last row and although the last row at the Hampstead Theatre may be fairly front and central there was still a psychological barrier. Not so on closing night! I was thoroughly rested and psyched up for the prospect of spending 3 hours mere yards from Ewan McGregor.

Jayne Rowse:
I feel terribly girly saying all this so I had better justify it by saying that I really admire Ewan as an actor, he is definitely not just a pretty face (and body). Well, there you go, I don't feel so bad about my silly swooning now.
I was lucky enough to enough to get tickets to two charity receptions that were held after Little Malcolm. The first time round I didn't really expect Ewan to turn up, so when he did I started drinking like a fish because I was so nervous. After far too many glasses of fizzy wine, I stumbled over to him and started gibbering nonsense. Unfortunately, I couldn't think of anything intelligent to say, so all I could do was drunkenly slur 'Ewan, I think you're great'! If that wasn't cringeable enough for you, for some bizarre reason I then asked him to sign my arm! Not only did he indulge me with my bizarre request, he also gave me a very bristly kiss on the cheek!! It really is quite embarrassing but I'm sure he gets idiots like me fawning over him all the time. The second time around I didn't get him to sign any body parts. Instead I got the whole cast to sign my programme. I felt rather childish doing this but I'm very glad I did.

Marta:

After seeing the play, Little Malcolm, I waited around the theatre and at last I met him. He's very friendly. I told him that I had gone to London from Barcelona, only to see the play, and he gave me thanx. He asked me if I had enjoyed it, and of course I told him that I have liked it a lot. He signed the script and a poster, and then we took some photos together. Then I gave him 2 kisses and I said goodbye. He was sweet, charmful, cool! It was a wonderful experience.

The incoming police and firemen didn't even attempt to save the house. To top it off, they arrested Earl Little for carrrying a revolver without a permit and held him under suspicion of arson. Finally on September 28, 1931, Earl Little was brutally murdered, most likely by the Klan. They found his head smashed and his body severed in two on a nearby railway track.
This all occurred during the time that the Great Depression took its hardest hit. The strain of raising eight little children, her husband's murder, survival, and the frequent harassment of state welfare agents was too much for Louis to handle. She suffered a nervous break-down, and she was admitted into the State Mental Hospital on January 9, 1939.
All the meanwhile Malcolm was sucessfully going through high school when one day his favorite teacher held a private converstation with him:
"Malcolm, you ought to be thinking about a
