As you sit in Mohammed and Aziza's restaurant Mumtaz, you cannot help but notice how popular it is. Even on quiet nights tables start filling up. One reason is their wonderful authentic East Indian food, hard enough to find that people have been known to fly here from Grenada to sample it. Favorites include shahjahani korma, Tandoori chicken and fish and Jhinga Massala. However Chef Mohammed likes to be able to please those who prefer other flavors and while East Indian cuisine is the major specialty, both continental and West Indian dishes are available.
The setting is a large patio in a quiet residential area, open to the breeze and night sounds. A large painting depicting a waterway covers the main wall of the house. The service is attentive and friendly under the direct supervision of Azeeza.
Mumtaz opens at 7.30 am everyday except Sunday for breakfast, Lunch and diner and stays open until the last dinner is served (about 10.30pm.).On Sundays they open at 5 pm for dinner only. Inexpensive light lunches featuring rotis in a variety of flavors make this a good noontime stop.

Mumtaz attends public school... but not the better public school. Instead she chose to go to the "bad" government school because she likes the teacher. They play around much more in the "bad" school. Even so, Mumtaz is always looking for an excuse to cut school. Mumtaz is good with her lessons and writes Tamil very well. Unfortunately, the English classes at the school are not good so her English is quite poor. She needs more practice. Mumtaz Father

(The Silly Girl)
Mumtaz is Vela's cousin. Mumtaz was a cute child two years ago. Now she is a beautiful young woman but she has become increasingly silly. (Mumtaz is pronounced "Mumtaj".) Like most Austroloids, Mumtaz ages about two years for every year she lives. Along with physical growth, I had hoped that her mind would become very intelligent by now. But no, she has been more like a child than when she was a child. She is just plain silly! Mumtaz Daily dressing!
Mumtaz Family
Most Austroloid men are peddle rickshaw drivers. This is in part because peddle rickshaws are cheap. Right is the Mumtaz and her sister riding in the back of her father's peddle rickshaw.
Wash Day!
And now that Mumtaz is getting older, she must do the work of a young woman. Since her family lives on the street, she must do the wash on the streets. Look how young Mumtaz was when I arrived in Madras this last trip.

33. Mumtaz Mahal
mumtaz Mahal mumtaz Mahal was bred by Lady Sykes at Sledmere. Leger Stakes).mumtaz Mahal was in the Aga Khan's stud in France when war broke out.
http://www.tbheritage.com/Portraits/MumtazMahal.htm
Mumtaz Mahal
In the stud she produced six winners: the very fast two year old, Mirza 2nd, Badruddin, Furrokh Siyar, Mah Mahal, Mumtaz Begum and Rustom Mahal. Her colts were better than her fillies, who were somewhat disappointing. However, when her daughters retired to stud a very different story was written. Mah Mahal foaled Mahmoud, Pherozshah, Khan Bahadur, Mbale and Mah Iran; Mumtaz Begum bred eight winners including Nasrullah, Dodoma 2nd, Sun Princess, Malindi, Bibibeg and Rivaz; while Rustom Mahal produced Fille du Regiment and Abernant.
Among her many notable descendants are Mahmoud, who won the Epsom Derby in record time and became a Leading Sire in 1946 in America, and 3rd Leading Sire in 1942 in Great Britain, and Nasrullah, who won the Champion Stakes and a third in the Epsom Derby and went on to become a Leading Sire in 1955, 1956, 1959, 1960, 1962 in America, as well as a Leading Sire in Great Britain.
Mumtaz Mahal was in the Aga Khan's stud in France when war broke out. When the stud was overrun by the Germans they left her behind, perhaps due to her age, or perhaps out of respect; she died there not long after. Mumtaz Mahal belongs to the Lady Josephine branch of Family # 9 that traces to the Old Vintner Mare.

Mumtaz Mahal - The Inspiration
Mumtaz Mahal or Arjumand Banu was the woman in whose memory the Taj Mahal was built. Perhaps, there is no better and grand monument built in the history of human civilization dedicated to love. Arjumand Banu was daughter of Asaf Khan and when she married Shahjahan at the age of 14 years, imperial city of Agra was already agog with the stories of her beauty. She was third wife of Prince Khurram or Shahjahan and the principle one throughout their life. She became Mumtaz Mahal in 1612 after her marriage and remained an inseparable companion of her husband till her death. As a symbol of her faith and love she bore Shahjahan 14 children and died during the birth of last child. For the love and affection she showed to her husband, Mumtaz Mahal received highest honor of the land - the royal seal - Mehr Uzaz from Shahjahan, the emperor. According to the legends, stories of her virtue spread all over the Mughal Empire.
The emperor and his pregnant empress moved towards Maharashtra or Deccan in the year 1630 to suppress the Lodi Empire that was gaining strength at that time. This was going to be the last journey that Mumtaz Mahal ever took. She breathed her last after delivering their 14th child (a daughter) in the city of Burhanpur on June 17, 1631. It is said that Mumtaz Mahal on her deathbed asked Shahjahan to create a symbol of their love for posterity and her loyal husband accepted it immediately. Though many historians are not agree with this story saying that it was the grief-stricken emperor himself who decided to built the most memorable symbol of love in the world.

Subscribe to Taj Mahal Travel India The year 1607 was a momentous year for Prince Khurram, the eldest son of Emperor Jahangir and his father's favourite. He was a young handsome prince accustomed to luxury and refinement. As he made his way to the Meena bazaar, the private market attached to the harem, he was surrounded by a string of fawning companions, all eager to catch his eye. Even at 15, young Khurram cut a dashing figure with his father's aristocratic nose, high forehead and large languid eyes. Every maid at the bazaar carried a torch for him.
Flamming Passions
The next day Khurram boldly presented his case before the Emperor seeking Arjumand's hand in marriage. The Emperor raised his hand in assent, perhaps recalling his own love for Noorjahan. However, five years were to pass before Khurram was to marry his beloved. Meanwhile, he was married to Quandari Begum, a Persian princess, for political reasons.
A Royal Marriage
The astrologers chose 1612 as auspicious for Khurranb's union with Arjumand. By now he was 20, and she, 19. It was a grand wedding, as befits an Emperor's son. Jahangir and Khurram went in procession, surrounded by nobles, musicians and dancers, acrobats, rare animals in cages, slaves and priests. Jahangir himself adorned Khurram with the wedding wreath of pearls. On the bride, he bestowed great honours.
