Morton leads Mocs past Western in tournament
    By Carey Phillips
Chattanooga center Oliver Morton came within two assists of a triple-double as the Mocs defeated Western Carolina 90-75 last Thursday in the first round of the Southern Conference Basketball Tournament at the Bi-Lo Center in Greenville, S.C.
Morton scored 18 of his 28 points in the second half. He finished with 15 rebounds and eight assists.
Also scoring in double figures for Chattanooga (10-18) were David Phillips with 24 points and Tim Parker with 10.
Idris Harper handed out 11 assists.
Jarvis Hayes scored 19 points for the Catamounts, who ended the year 14-14. Casey Rogers added 16 points to go with six assists, and Cory Largent scored 11 points.
WCU's Dondrell Whitmore pulled down 10 rebounds.
Western led until Tim Parker's three-pointer tied it 18-18 with 10:51 to go in the first half. The Mocs outscored WCU 21-11 the rest of the half for a 39-29 lead.
Chattanooga led by 18 with 6:37 remaining before the Cats used a 16-4 run cutting the gap to six at the 3:42 mark.
Rashun Coleman's three-pointer with 3:12 to go stemmed the tide, and Western got no closer than seven after that.

No. 71-1369 (10th Cir. October 4, 1971) Opinion of district court, 1 ELR 20157 , enjoining Interior Secretary from cancelling helium purchase contract prior to filing environmental impact statement under NEPA, affirmed. Assertion of NEPA argument by appellees supplies federal question necessary for jurisdiction. Similarly, alleged NEPA violation by Secretary removes sovereign immunity defense. Court will not weigh conflicting interests of appellees to determine whether motivation for bringing suit was financial or desire to protect public interest. Depletion of helium resource is environmental question which Secretary must consider before acting, although formal Interior Department hearings are not required by NEPA. Virtually the entire national program of helium conservation under the National Helium Act is involved. FACTS Plaintiffs are each engaged in helium extraction operations in the Kansas-Hugoton gas field in southwest Kansas. This field is apparently the greatest source of helium in the free world. Helium extraction is a highly technical and complicated operation whereby the helium is extracted from natural gas prior to the gas being sold as a fuel source. Pursuant to the National Helium Act the plaintiffs were awarded contracts for the extraction and sale of helium to the Federal Government. The contracts provided in part as follows:

Early Phillips High School Basketball Teams
    By ROBERT PRUTER
    pruter@attbi.com
Black prominence in Chicago basketball dates back to the very beginnings of the boys' game around the turn of the century. In 1901, the very first Cook County League championship team, Hyde Park, featured an outstanding black athlete, Sam Ransom. In his four years at the school, Ransom also led Hyde Park in two Cook County football championships, one mythical national football championship, one Pennsylvania Relays mile championship, and two Cook County baseball championships. Ransom went on to Beloit College, where he played basketball with great distinction.
During the next two decades, individual black athletes continued to make a name for themselves on various Chicago teams, but it was not until the mid-1920s, when Phillips had become a virtually all-black school, that the basis for black prominence was established. The high school itself was not the only factor. Larry Hawkins, a black sports history authority and former coach at Carver, says that Phillips, the Wabash YMCA, and the South Side Boys' Club formed a "golden triangle" to produce great black basketball talent.
In the 1920s and 1930s most high school programs were not divided into varsity and frosh-soph divisions but rather into heavyweight and lightweight divisions. It was the lightweight teams at Phillips that were the first to call attention in dramatic fashion to the black talent in the Chicago schools. The 1926 team made the semifinals of the Public League championship before succumbing to Englewood (then a virtually all-white school). The Phillips teams included starting center Inman Jackson, a future Globetrotter.

A small number of music-related titles were added to the general collection of the Music Library; the remainder of the books were discarded. These included Feldman's collection of books about carpets and catalogs of carpet exhibitions and auctions. The list of titles related to carpets and art is fairly extensive. Reflective as they are of Feldman's interests in these areas, the complete list is presented below. CARPET BOOKS Bennett, Ian. Book of Oriental Carpets and Rugs

      Introduction
Samuel Bickerstaff ( Biggerstaff ) immigrated to America around 1740 into the Philadelphia area and probably lived in variuos locations in Pennsylvania ( where he married Elizabeth Moore at Conococheague on 10Nov1741) and New Jersey until migrating south to North Carolina, where in 14Feb1757 he buys land on the south fork of the Catawba River. Samuel died sometime around Nov 1764. Samuel and Elizabeth had five children : Aaron (b. est 1742), Samuel (b. est 1743), Benjamin (b. est 1744), Molly (b. est 1746), and Martha (b. 1748). A very large numbers of present day Biggerstaffs in America can trace their lineage to Samuel Biggerstaff and Elizabeth Moore through one of these children. There are however, several lines: "The Virginia Line" and two Irish lines that are included in the Biggerstaff Family History, third edition 1989 by Ralph L. Biggerstaff that are not yet connected to Samuel and Elizabeth. Future research may be able to link these lines together. For more information on The Biggerstaff Genealogical Society and Family Association write to: Richard M.
