If someone stood up in a crowd
And raised his voice up way out loud
And waved his arm
And shook his leg
You'd notice him
If someone in a movie show
Yelled "fired in the second row,
This whole place is a powder keg!"
You'd notice him And even without clucking like a hen Everyone gets noticed, now and then, Unless, of course, that personage should be Invisisble, inconsequential me! Reilly: Facing challenges of 'The Perfect Storm' NEW YORK (AP) Playing a fisherman in "The Perfect Storm" was no easy task for John C. Reilly. His days were spent working on a boat off the coast of Gloucester, Mass., or in a tank filled with 1.8 million gallons of water on a Los Angeles soundstage. The film, which stars George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg and Diane Lane, is based on Sebastian Junger's 1997 best seller. It is the true story of a crew of commercial fishermen who battled three colliding storms in the Atlantic Ocean in 1991. Reilly plays Dale Murphy, or "Murph," whose wife leaves him because he spends too much time on the boat. "I wanted Murph to be the biggest guy on the boat. I gained about 30 pounds, and I grew this big old burly beard and my hair was all crazy," said Reilly, who loves stories about the ocean.

Reilly: I like Boogie Nights the most. More the sort of movie that I would go see. Question: Do you think of yourself as a star? Or a star to be? John C. Reilly: I think of myself as an actor. Spelling Reform
History's Most Secret Conspiracy The reform of English spelling is one of those things that are obviously good ideas to some people and a species of insanity to others. I have always fallen into the first category, maybe because I have always liked languages. Compared to most European languages, English is actually pretty simple. However, intrinsically more complicated languages are often easier to learn than English, for the simple reason you can learn their spelling systems in the course of an afternoon. Something is wrong with English that should be fixed. Trying to change the graphical representation of the most widely spoken language in the history of the world is an extraordinarily radical proposition, so I am not about to hit you over the head with the whole thing on the introductory page. Just browse a little. Consult with the Dead People, check out the dubious Schemes, and do not neglect the subversive Links. If you are one of those who have always thought something should be done about English spelling, this site can put you in touch with others of like mind. If you are one of those to whom the very idea of changing spelling never occurred, this site may help to open up your sense of the possible. Fiction, Nonfiction in Reformed Spelling

17. The Celestine Prophecy
Book review. It is sad that this harmless but banal book is so popular.

Alternative History Eschatology History Literature ... Reply to John J. Reilly Here The Celestine Prophecy
by James Redfield Warner Books, 1993
246 pp., $17.95
ISBN: 0-446-51862-X LC: 93-61754 Let us be charitable. Pilgrim's Progress was not very good as a story either. Still, for centuries people throughout the English-speaking world have been edified and entertained by that book, despite its relentless allegories, stiff characters and a plot with all the surprise and whimsy of a long ride on a freight elevator. The Celestine Prophecy is a novel also economical of artistic blandishments, yet it too has achieved an uncanny popularity. As of July 10, 1994, it had been on the New York Times bestseller list for 19 weeks and was still number 2. On computer bulletin boards, people extol its virtues and testify to how it has changed their lives. The author, a New Age writer and spiritual guide who lives in Alabama, has been making the round of radio talkshows and afternoon television programs with some success. However, when all provision has been made for differences in taste and the quite real possibility that it is I who am obtuse, I cannot escape the conclusion that there is something terribly, terribly sad about the reaction to this book, that this savorless New Age confection should have been the most popular piece of spiritual reading in the United States in the first half of 1994 [when this was written]. The framework of the book ("plot" is perhaps an exaggeration) is simple enough. It seems than an Aramaic document, written about 600 B.C., has been discovered in Peru. This work, which is composed of nine "insights," explains the reason for human conflict and outlines the future of the race. The Peruvian government, at the behest of the Catholic Church, is trying to find and suppress the document. Therefore, its keepers have divided it up for safety and translation. The protagonist is a man from the United States who goes to Peru and finds the translated insights one by one.

John C Reilly Biography
By the year 2000, John C Reilly was well on his way to realizing his dream of becoming the Michael Caine or Gene Hackman of his generation. While playing sympathetic and villainous roles with equal aplomb, he has created a rapport with audiences using his Everyman or even "lunkhead" quality, something that made him one of the most sought-after character actors of the late 1990s and early 21st century. While he may not be instantly recognizable, the curly-haired actor projects a presence that reassures the audience. From Hatcher, one of the rape-minded soldiers in conflict with Michael J Fox, in "Casualties of War" (1989) to the constable sympathetic to "Dolores Claiborne" (1995) to the trusting guy who falls under the spell of a Reno gambler in "Hard Eight" (1996), Reilly has played common blokes who realistically react to the events they encounter. Born into an Irish Catholic family and raised in the suburbs of Chicago, Reilly became interested in theater while attending DePaul University, where he studied at the famed Goodman School of Drama. The quick-witted and admittedly soft-hearted actor got his first taste of stage work as an undergraduate and made his professional debut with Chicago's Organic Theatre, where he also wrote and directed a series of monologues, "Walkin' the Boogie". Eventually, he joined the prestigious Steppenwolf Theatre where he appeared in "Othello" and was cast as Noah Joad, Tom's brother, in "The Grapes of Wrath". Reilly also traveled with the cast to Broadway, but did not repeat the role for the TV adaptation.
