(Industry, Trade and Technology) Newfoundlander wins Q107 Home Grown 1996 music contest Chad Richardson of St. John's, Newfoundland won first prize in the Q107 Home Grown 1996 contest at the Phoenix Concert Theatre in Toronto, Ontario earlier this week. The singer/song writer took top honours out of 2000 bands that entered the contest. Richardson's prizes included $15,000 cash, $10,000 worth of equipment and a recording contract. He is also featured on the Home Grown CD which is expected to be in stores shortly. Richardson is the only act from outside of Ontario to be featured on the CD. In February 1995, Richardson released his first album entitled "Two People" in stores. He expects his new album "The Legend of Brud" will be available for purchase in mid-October. The young singer/song writer says he's naming the album after his best friend's father who doubted his seriousness of becoming a singer. "Chad Richardson is an example of the tremendous talent we have in this province," said Charles Furey, Minister of Industry, Trade and Technology. "His persistence to succeed in a very competitive industry is to be applauded. We wish him all the best in the future." The 26 year-old, who describes himself as a die-hard Newfoundlander, lives in Toronto.

http://www.fantasyindex.com/Richardson112702.html
Fantasy Index: News and Commentary Andy Richardson Strength vs. Depth
Andy Richardson
Fantasy Index columnist Some people will tell you that the most important thing to have on any fantasy team is roster depth. A strong case can be made for this, particularly in light of recent injuries to top fantasy players like Marshall Faulk and Donovan McNabb. If you've kept Michael Vick around as McNabb's backup all year, as a guy in my league did, you barely blinked at McNabb's (fantasy) season-ending injury. But in examining my various teams this year, I'm developing a wild, unorthodox notion regarding roster depth. There is a dark side to the fact that the drop-off from starters to backups at various positions is relatively little. Sometimes, it's because the starters weren't that spectacular in the first place, and that's why your "deep" team is losing more weeks than it's winning. And then you wonder: Should I have sacrificed some depth earlier in the season to acquire a stronger group of starters? People who started the year with Kurt Warner and David Boston in their starting lineup will beg to differ, saying it's a damn good thing they had quality backups for those guys from the get-go. However, when looking at some of the guys who have stepped into those roles and been fantasy stars this season including Tommy Maddox, Chad Pennington, Jerry Porter, and Donald Driver you start running across a bunch of names you were able to add from free agency over the course of the season not the guys you actually drafted for depth or as sleepers initially, like David Carr, Jerome Pathon, and Reggie Wayne.

The invention eliminates the audible “chuffing” noise that a ported enclosure makes when the speakers are played very loudly. This “chuffing” sound is similar to the noise made by opening the window of a moving car. This patented invention is an important feature of Bose’s highly successful Lifestyle® and Acoustimass® systems.

In December, a federal grand jury handed down a separate, thirty-six-count indictment against Tyson Foods and six of its executives alleging that the company smuggled illegal immigrants from Mexico to work at U.S. poultry plants. “In fifteen years of practice, I’ve never seen the federal government surrender during trial,” said Dallas principal Tom Melsheimer, who was lead defense counsel in the case. “I think the federal government’s decision to drop charges against my client casts doubt on the credibility of the government’s entire undercover investigation.” In addition to Tom Melsheimer, the defense team included Dallas principal Matt Yarbrough and associate Victor Johnson.

THE GUESS WHO CONNECTION:
THE CHAD ALLAN YEARS
Crossed-Paths Anecdotes by Bill Hillman In the late '50s, the radio ads for a new Winnipeg rock 'n' roll band drew my attention. I had just bought my first electric guitar, a shiny black, Les Paul-shaped instrument with gold fleck and white binding. It was made by the Harmony guitar company for the Simpson's-Sears Company of Canada and was called a Silvertone. Obviously this guitar left an impression on this new group of young musicians led by Chad Allan (Allan Kowbel) as they had named their new group: Allan and the Silvertones In 1961 I packed up my ever-present Silvertone and moved to Brandon where I had enrolled in a Bachelor of Science programme at Brandon College. My first years in college in the early '60s were exciting musical times. I was performing in a country band on a daily TV show, a jazz combo, pick-up bands, old-time groups, and various rock bands where I played guitar instrumentals for four hours a night. The manager of one of these rock bands also owned the Brandon Roller Rink which featured some of the top USA touring bands of the day: Ventures Fireballs Conway Twitty (when he was a rocker)
