    Statistics
    In addition, the previous day's statistics may be online. Because of how www.clock.org rotates its HTTP log files, only a single day's worth of information is trivially available, covering the current day from midnight to 11:59pm US Pacific time. Depending on when the cron job runs, the daily statistics may be temporarily unavailable. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

    (Note 1)
    Statistics for June, July, and August 1998 are not completely available due to a disk space crunch. Old data (June 1-12, July 1-14, August 2) was deleted from disk and is not available for statistical calculation.
    (Note 2)
    Statistics for April 1999 are incomplete due to a hack on www.clock.org. Because someone may have succeeded in breaking in, the httpd service was disabled for ten and a half days (specifically, from 20:15:53 Apr05/99 until 02:29:55 Apr16/99).
    (Note 3)
    Statistics for November 2000 are not completely available due to a system panic and a wedged disk check ( fsck ) early on November 17th. The web server was unavailable for approximately 8.4 hours (03:52 until 12:16 Pacific time).

    Sprint Paranet at ABN AMRO North America, Inc.
    I became a Technical Analyst with Paranet in November, 1996. Purchased in August 1997 by Sprint , the newly-renamed Sprint Paranet is a consulting company that specializes in systems, network, and business analysis, design, and re-engineering. Their aim is to develop a partnership with the client so they can make them the best in their field. They are not vendor-tied, so they can theoretically recommend the best solution for the client without being forced (contractually) to say "Sun" or "HP" or "Intel" or any specific vendor. I left Sprint Paranet in 1998. My client was ABN AMRO North America, Inc. , an international retail and trading bank. Coming from my stint at SBC, I was already familiar with a lot of the general practices of their organization, so they were really happy at not having to explain production versus development work and that information technology takes a back seat to making money and so on. I was a webmaster, did systems and network administration and planning for both hardware and software, and was doing project coordination for Internet-based web sites that they developed for their customers. As part of my projects, I wrote six (and completed five) technical manuals for them as well:

            #!/usr/bin/perl -w
            use SOAP::Lite;
            print SOAP::Lite

            -> getRate('united states', 'spain')
          The interface with ksoap is pretty easy. I need to make a test servlet, then I will merge SOAP into the working sources.
          Side note: I discovered some old debugging variables in the XMLClient application source. I will take this out and rebuild in the next version.

    1 Introduction
    RADIUS is a widely used protocol in network environments. It is commonly used for embedded network devices such as routers, modem servers, switches, etc. It is used for several reasons:
    • The embedded systems generally cannot deal with a large number of users with distinct authentication information. This requires more storage than many embedded systems possess.
    • RADIUS facilitates centralized user administration, which is important for several of these applications. Many ISPs have tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, or even millions of users. Users are added and deleted continuously throughout the day, and user authentication information changes constantly. Centralized administration of users in this setting is an operational requirement.
    • RADIUS consistently provides some level of protection against a sniffing, active attacker. Other remote authentication protocols provide either intermittent protection, inadequate protection or non-existent protection. RADIUS's primary competition for remote authentication is TACACS+ and LDAP. LDAP natively provides no protection against sniffing or active attackers. TACACS+ is subtly flawed, as discussed by Solar Designer in his advisory.

    Sun Server?
    Author: Karl Martino Posted: 3/9/2000; 5:44:30 AM Topic: Sun Server? Msg #: Prev/Next:
    I hope they make XML-RPC a standard library included with their Java Servlet/JSP reference Tomcat. That would be sweet. I'm gonna look at a few of the libraries that have been posted to xml-rpc.com. Lately we have been really digging into servlets at philly.com. Soon our newspapers will be published using a java servlet as the front end. inqtest.philly.com is a test site. It's running on a slow server if you take a look. It's just proof-of-concept. It's completely dynamic (although, through the magic of servlets, it's doesn't look that way at all). The more interesting of thing about the newspaper site is the backend. For reasons I really can't get into, it would be awesome if there was an XML-RPC API available for the newspaper. We may set up something like this after we go live. I have been pushing for including it now, and using XML-RPC internally between the system's various components. It's a great glue protocol. It may not be the best in performance, but it appears to make things so much more reusable. A line I keep repeating to my coworkers - The URL is the command line XML-RPC reminds me more and more of OLE for inter-app communication in Windows, or ODBC for databases. It almost makes sense that Microsoft has a role here. People look at MS as the 'evil empire'. Maybe true. People forget how open ODBC was and how enabling it was. A whole industry was built on it. XML-RPC is the same type of enabler. Hopefully SOAP will be too.
