digitalurbanite Main August 03, 2001 Aaron Sorkin sucks. So I was perusing the Internet, and I see this article about Martin Sheen, Aaron Sorkin and The West Wing. The first thing I'll tell you is that I love The West Wing. I think it's a great show. Intelligent, funny, deep. The second thing I'll tell you is that I have absolutely no tolerance for mind-altering substances. For Aaron Sorkin to publicly admit that he still uses an illegal drug (even "sporadically", which probably means only once a day instead of being perpetually high) pisses me off. That he pleaded guilty to two felonies and a misdemeanor and got off with PROBATION and random drug testing sickens me. The man uses, and has abused, illegal drugs. They range from marijuana to cocaine and crack. And I'm supposed to sit in front of my TV at 9pm on Wednesdays and watch what the man's written when he should be in jail for those felonies? I'm supposed to listen to Donna and Josh banter, laugh at a scene where Charlie has to wake up the President and think deeply about several subjects the show brings up, all while the man who's written the show is no better than a common drug addict? I know that if I stop watching The West Wing, it won't make a difference. No one will care if one viewer in Canada decides that enough is enough, and never tunes in again. I know that if I stop watching, the only person it will affect at all is me. I truly enjoy the show. I truly have no respect for Sorkin. And yet, because of the respect I have for the quality of the work the asshole produces, I feel I am trapped.
