Wilhelm Richard Wagner wurde am 22.05. 1813 im Haus 1813 wurde er in der Thomaskirche in evangelisch-lutherischer Konfession getauft. Nachdem sein Vater schon am 23.11. 1813 an den Folgen einer Typhus-Epidemie starb, heiratete Wagners Mutter am 28.08. 1814 den Schauspieler Ludwig Geyer (1778-1821), mit dem die Familie 1814 nach Dresden zog. 1830 an der Nikolaischule sowie an der Thomasschule . Seit 1831 studierte er an der Thomaskantor C. T. Weinlig (1780-1842), dem er auch sein erstes Werk (Klaviersonate in B-Dur ) widmete. (1837) sowie Kapellmeister in Riga (1837/ (1843) und begannen. (1876) und 1883 starb R. Wagner in Venedig. Richard-Wagner-Platz Wagnerdenkmal Klingerhain befindet. Auch das in den 1930er Jahren vorgesehene riesige Richard-Wagner-Nationaldenkmal am Ost-Ufer des Elsterbeckens blieb unvollendet.

The man who was officially his father, a clerk at the police court, died when he was very young. His mother married the painter Ludwig Geyer and possibly he was Wagner's real father. When he was seven the family moved to Dresden, where he received his first musical education at the Dresdner Kreuzschule. Geyer died when Wagner was only eight years old, but he had already inspired a taste for art in the boy. Under the influence of Goethe and Shakespeare he wrote the tragedy "Leubald und Adelaide" at a very young age. He started a series of diaries around the age of twenty, already convinced of his own genius and his future fame. After attending performances of works by Weber and Beethoven he switched to music. He went to Leipzig university in 1831 and became chorus master at the Würzburg theatre. Wagner finished his first opera "Die Feen" in 1834 and in 1836 he married the singer Minna Planer (a marriage he would regret until their separation in 1858). He went to Königsberg with her to became musical director at the theatre. Soon afterwards the theatre went bankrupt and Wagner was left behind without payment. An engagement in Riga followed, but in 1839 he had to flee from his creditors. Wagner tried to find himself a place in the world of opera in Paris (1839-1842). Allthough he became friendly with the great Meyerbeer he failed and almost starved to death from poverty. Even so he finished his opera "Rienzi" and when it was performed in Dresden on October 20th, 1842 it became an immediate success. In 1843 it was followed by "Der Fliegende Hollander" (The Flying Dutchman) and in that same year he became Kapellmeister in Dresden.

He influenced almost everyone but i is sometimes difficult to separate his music from his ideas and the admiration he inspired in people like Hitler. Wagner wrote his own librettos and composed operas that admirers claim are the ultimate opera experience and detractors say are overblown. He began creating operas in 1832 and his musical genius quickly became evident with and Lohengrin . As his ideas about unified music drama developed, he turned to pre-Christian Teutonic myth and wrote the longest and most complex work in opera, the Ring Cycle , which consists of four connected operas, and Wagner thought so highly of them he built his own opera house in Bayreuth to stage them and his last opera Parsifal was meant to be presented nowhere else. Wagner's life has inspired numerous film biographies since the early days of cinema and he also features prominently in films about his patron King Ludwig II. Among those who have impersonated him on screen are Richard Burton, Trevor Howard and Alan Badel. His music is often used for atmospheric effect in non-operatic films including such classics as L'Age d'Or Dracula and Apocalypse Now.

Richard Wagner Nascita: Lipsia (D) - 22/5/1813 Morte: Venezia (I) - 13/2/1883 Epoca: Romanticismo Biografia: R ichard Wagner nasce a Lipsia, si trasferisce in tenera età con la madre a Dresda e, nel 1826, ritorna a Lipsia dove studia alla Thommasschule e all'Università. Viaggia a Vienna e Praga e, nel 1833 viene eletto maestro di coro e sostituto al teatro di Würzburg, passa quindi a Magdeburgo e Königsberg dove sposò l'attrice Minna Planner. Nel frattempo scrive le opere Le Fate (1834) e Il divieto d'amare (1836) e alcuni pezzi orchestrali. Nel 1837 è maestro di cappella del teatro di Riga. E' a Riga che compone il Rienzi (terminato nel 1840). Nel 1839 è a Londra e Parigi dove compone L'Olandese Volante (o Vascello Fantasma) ed entra in contatto con l'ambiente musicale francese ed in particolare con Hector Berlioz. Nel 1842 ritorna in Germania anche grazie alla maggior considerazione che la propria musica stava riscuotendo in patria. Dal 1843 al 1849 è maestro di cappella alla corte di Dresda. Nella città tedesca compone il Tannhäuser , (rappresentato il 19 ottobre 1845) ed il Lohengrin (1848). A Weimar incontra
