Cady McClain
Dixie Cooney Martin on All My Children

Following her break from daytime television after portraying Dixie Cooney Martin from 1988-1996, "All My Children" was thrilled when Cady McClain rejoined the cast in the summer of 1998. Dixie returned to Pine Valley at the insistence of Adam Chandler, the father of her son, Adam Junior, when he found his family in grave danger. Dixie, the niece of wealthy Palmer Cortlandt, who has been unlucky in love in the past, finds herself thrown together once more with the love of her life, Tad Martin. Others in crisis have brought them together; but what will their future hold when they face a crisis of their own? Cady was born and raised in southern California. She began her career at the age of nine, with the popular commercial, "I Am Stuck on Band-Aids." Other commercials followed, as well as appearances on such television series as "Cheers," "St. Elsewhere" and "Lou Grant." Her early film credits included playing Peter O'Toole's daughter, Tess, in "My Favorite Year"; and tap-dancing, 1930s style, on a white piano, in "Pennies From Heaven." She arrived in New York at age 17, when a workshop production of Judith Viorst's "Happy Birthday and Other Humiliations" moved east for pre-Broadway tryouts. Despite its limited run, Cady received good reviews and doors began to open for her in the city.

Willey Stay? Yes, Indeed!
Posted Wednesday, June 13, 2001 4:29:32 PM
For several weeks, Walt Willey (Jackson) and the executives at AMC have been engaged in contract talks. In a statement about the contract talks, Willey told fans, "I have every intention of negotiating in good faith with [the show] and I am sure that they intend the same. The outcome, of course cannot be known."
Well, Jackson fans, the outcome is now known: Walt Willey will be staying in Pine Valley for some time to come.
Fears surfaced last month when it was reported that Willey and ABC were having difficulty agreeing to terms on a new contract. An insider had told Soap Opera Central that the network wanted Willey to take a pay cut in order to remain on the show.
While neither side is speaking publicly about the specifics of the new deal, Willey has confirmed to Soap Opera Central that he has signed a new three-year contract.

    (Q) If you could be any cartoon character, who would you be?
SEAHAAS (Walt) The answer to your question is twofold: "Goofy" is the first answer. Why? Because my boy idolizes him...and we wear the same shoe size. And Mickey Mouse, be cause the little *@%!! runs the world! (Q) If Chance could be any character who would he be?
Luciwisher - Lindsey (Walt) Oh, I gotta believe it would be "Max", Goofy's son. Or perhaps "Buzz Lightyear"! (Q) If you could pick only one song, from all of time, which would you say would have to be your very most favorite?
(Walt) "Shattered", by the Rolling Stones, and I'm not about to go into WHY! (Q) They say that no matter how much or how little a person does or accomplishes in their lifetime, each person will always be "summed up in one sentance" when they die. examples: he was a hard worker, he was smart, he was always kind to everyone, he was a tight wad, etc. What do you think will be the "one thought or sentance" remembered when you come to mind?
(Walt) He tried to end whatever suffering he could through charity, discipline, and laughter. (Q) When the new Soap-Net cable channel begins broadcasting Ryan's Hope, will we see your Joe Novak character? I hope you'll be getting residual checks from those shows!

I Spent the Night with Walt Willey . . .
By Stephanie Cabrera Friday, June 22, 2001 And all I could do was laugh! You read that correctly, it’s absolutely true and I’ll never look at Jackson Montgomery the same again. I was tipped off via e-mail that Walt (his friends call him Walt) was going to perform at the Brea Improv, which is literally 20 minutes from my house. He was headlining at the club for the weekend and I was already booked for Saturday and Sunday. My husband Jack usually plays softball on Friday nights, but coincidentally his team had a bi that Friday. I’m the type of person who believes things happen for a reason, so when I called my best AMC pal Judith (whose always booked months in advance) and found out she was available on Friday and just as excited to go as I was, I knew it was meant to be. I was going to see Jackson live and I couldn’t wait. Of course I immediately decided to write about this in my column and share my experience with you. I put out some feelers asking if anyone had seen Walt’s act before to get an idea of what to expect. One lucky gal responded and said he was quite funny and she enjoyed his show.

Walt Willey at the Brea Improv
On Sunday, June 24, 2001, I saw Walt Willey at the Brea Improv. I hadn't been to back to the Improv, since I saw Rick Rockwell, more than a year earlier, on April 6 and 8. It would be my first time at a Comedy Club, since I saw Rick at the Pasadena Icebox. I had long wondered about Walt as a comic. I'd seen him do a short bit on some television show, once, and hadn't felt it to be quite enough to judge him by. Finally, I would have my chance! During all of these acts, standing at one side of the stage, was Paula Dunn, an onstage interpreter for the deaf, and each of these comicsincluding Walthad jovially brought attention to her, wondering how she was going to sign a particularily interesting joke or anothersuch as the sign forumfemale genitalia ( which appeared to be accomplished by forming a triangle with both hands ); OR the phrase "suck-ass" ( accomplished by bringing a rolled-up hand to the lips, which formed an "O" ). Indeed, Kathy Smith had joked that Paula was getting more laughs than any of the professional comics! Indeed, that brings up a point: how many comics rely on "pussy" and "dick" jokes. I can see why so many have praised Rick for being a clean comic. His act is clean enough for televisionor a corporate show, as he's been doing for the past ten years. This is what riles up his resentful rivals; but he's quite correct in working clean, as it can be shock to hear such language, even presented as funny as it often is. ( Many of the comics posting on alt.comedy.standup point out Pauly Shore as the prime example of a comic who shocks an audience with his blue jokes, because they'd been drawn by him, but expecting him to be the clean little sweet fellow they'd seen in movies ).

In college, you majored in sculpture. You worked in retail sales and manufacturing. What made you d ecide to b ecome an actor? "I did a few plays in college, and got very good notices, so decided to give it a try so i didn't have to wonder 'what if?'..."
What do your children, Chance and Merit, think of their dad being on television? "All they really know is that Daddy has the same job as 'Goofy', and since we're owned by disney and have several special events on Disney properties, they think that's very cool!"
What are your best memories from your days on Another World (ex-James) and Ryan's Hope (ex-Joe)? "Working with Ving Rhames on 'AW' was a real treat, and filling the shoes of 'Joe Novak' on 'RH' was a real challenge given the actors that preceded me in this role."
Do you still talk to anyone from those soaps?

Walt Willey (Jackson Montgomery) Born in Ottawa, Illinois, Walt Willey majored in sculpture in his college days, drifted into retail sales, and finally into manufacturing. At the age of 30, Willey decided to "chuck it all" and moved to New York to become an actor. After stints on Another World as James LaRusso and Joe Novak on ABC's Ryan's Hope, Walt joined the cast of ABC's All My Children in 1987, originating the role of lawyer Jackson Montgomery. Walt branched out into stand-up comedy in 1989, and has headlined across the country, from Caroline's in New York to the Comedy Store in California, closing with his original song/soap parody, "Here In Pine Valley." In 1993, Walt co-hosted The 20th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards, with co-star Susan Lucci. He also co-hosted the 1992 Ford Supermodel of the World with Beverly Johnson and Ashley Montana, and again in 1993 with Rachel Hunter. Willey was co-host of ABC's coverage of the 1994 Tournament of Roses Parade. In June of 1994, Walt first produced the live variety show
