Margaret Bonds On this date in 1913, Margaret Bonds was born. She was an African American pianist and composer. From Chicago, Ill., Bonds’ mother Estella was a church organist and pianist whose friends included Florence B. Price and Will Marion Cook.
She received her Bachelors degree from Northwestern University and continued graduate studies at Juilliard School of Music in New York City. During her career, Bonds taught at the American Theater Wing and performed with a number of orchestras, including the Women’s Symphony, the New York Symphony , and the Scranton Philharmonic in Pennsylvania. Bonds was also the first Black guest soloist with the Chicago Symphony at the Chicago World’s Fair in 1933.
From 1968 to 1972, she worked with the inner city Cultural Center in Los Angeles. Musically, Bonds’ works for piano and orchestra are programmatic, and they show her sense of ethnic identity through her use of jazz harmonies, spiritual materials, and social themes. Margaret Bonds died in Los Angeles on April 26, 1972.

Welcome to a new world of classical music! The recorded works featured on this page were composed in the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries, yet they remain an unknown quantity to most listeners today.
Many composers of African descent have won critical acclaim or enjoyed popular success in their own time, only to be neglected later. New and recent CDs are making their works available to appreciative listeners throughout the world.
This page lists sample recordings by the composers featured on the Composers of African Descent page. Other CDs by composers of color can be found on every page of this site.

28. Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation In Memory Donation
Under these rules, you may give stocks, bonds, futures and options,as well as mutual fund shares. Strip or ZeroCoupon bonds.

What is a Planned Gift?
A Planned Gift:
  • considers personal and family needs
  • is tailored to your financial situation
  • is usually made from assets, not current income
  • is a tax-effective way of giving
  • is probably the largest charitable donation you will ever make
  • enables you to leave a permanent legacy.
Types of Planned Gifts: The PMH Foundation offers a number of creative ways for our supporters to give. The most common types of planned gifts are briefly described below to give you an idea of the various possibilities.
We would be pleased to provide you with more information about your options and to prepare a personalized financial illustration for you to share with your financial and/or legal advisor. Current Gifts: Current gifts are given today for the immediate benefit of cancer research and care. They may be claimed against up to 80% of your net annual income. Cash Gifts A cash donation is the way most people support The PMH Foundation. Cash gifts can be one-time-only donations or pledges paid in several instalments. Your gift is eligible for a charitable tax receipt which generates a tax credit that can be used to reduce the income tax you pay. You can combine cash gifts with future gifts such as bequests to fund projects like named endowed funds. Securities New tax rules have made it very attractive to donate publicly-traded securities that have appreciated in value. Under these rules, you may give stocks, bonds, futures and options, as well as mutual fund shares. Usually the Foundation sells the securities to support the project you choose. The tax savings generated by your donation can be used to offset the capital gains payable on other parts of your portfolio.

    http://www.otago.ac.nz/SaintMargarets/handbook/finance.html
Finance Fees There are two methods of fee payment. The first is a discounted single fee payment. People wishing to take advantage of the single payment discount option must pay all fees by the date of the first fee payment. The single payment discount is not available after this date. The second method of fee payment is for three equal payments by the dates given on the fee schedule. Late Payments To be fair to those who pay on time, a $5 surcharge will be applied for each week or part of a week that the fees are outstanding. If fees are outstanding more than four weeks (or if a cheque is dishonoured) the College will impose a 5% penalty. To be fair to those who pay on time the costs of legal fees or other collection costs will be added to the debt. In some cases the College can also request the University to withhold examination results. Semester Dates Fees cover the semester dates published at the end of this Handbook from when a student signs into the College until 24 hours after their last examination. A daily rate is charged if people wish to come to the College earlier or if they wish to stay in the one week or mid year vacation times. Loans and Allowances While Members may apply for government loans and allowances to cover accommodation, the fee must be paid personally by the Members. The government or the University will not pay the fees. You will be loaned money to assist with paying the fees but please be aware that the accommodation loan is not sufficient to cover the year's fees, and that the first payment date for fees is before loans and allowances are paid. Please also be aware to fill in the loan application correctly and completely, as while the people administering the system at the University are there to help, any problems with details will delay payment.
