Various cases have occurred in America in which labour organizations have pronounced such a boycott against a firm; and its illegal nature has been established in the law-courth notably in the case of the Bucks Stove Company v. The American Federation of Labor (f 907) ill the Supreme Court of the district of Columbia, and in a suit against the Hatters’ Union (February 1908) in the U.S. Supreme Court. A boycott has also been held by the U.S. Supreme Court to be a violation of the Sherman Anti-Trust law. BOYD, ANDREW KENNEDY HUTCHISON (1825-1899), Boyd’s son Thomas, earl of Arran, was in Denmark when his rather was overthrown. However, he fulfilled his mission, that Df bringing the king’s bride, Margaret, to Scotland, and then, warned by his wife, escaped to the continent of Europe. He is mentioned very eulogistically in one of the Paston Letters, ~ut practically nothing is known of his subsequent history. Lord Boyd’s grandson Robert (d.c. 1550), a son of Alexander Boyd, was confirmed in the possession of the estates and honours Df his grandfather in 1549, and is generally regarded as the 3rd Lord Boyd. His son Robert, 4th Lord Boyd (d. ‘590), took a prominent part in Scottish politics during the troubled time which followed the death of James V. in 1542. At first he favoured the reformed religion, but afterwards his views changed and he became one of the most trusted advisers of Mary, queen of Scots, whom he accompanied to the battle of Langside in 1568. During the queen’s captivity he was often employed on diplomatic errands; he tried to stir up insurrections in her favour, and he was suspected iif participation in the murder

    William Boyce (1711-1779)
His Eight Symphonies A small tribute to an underestimated composer Already as a little child I was enchanted by the symphonies of William Boyce, played by the Württemberg Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Jörg Faerber (Turnabout vox, TV 34133s).
Constant Lambert, a musician and author has contributed to the popularity of the eight symphonies by publishing an edition (1928). He adapted the scores for a modern orchestra but omitted some historical features, like the timpani in symphonie no.5.
In publications on music history in general, the English composer William Boyce is sometimes briefly mentioned among great Baroque composers like Händel and Bach. You can argue about the fact that Boyce is a true Baroque composer or not; he was born 25 years after Bach and Händel. However, in the time Boyce composed his most known works, composers were expected to write in the Baroque style.
His Eight Symphonies are constructed in a relatively simple manner, generally having three movements, one of which might be in the relative minor key. Most of the movements have conservative forms, binary, or occasionally extended binary forms.

    William Boyce (1711-1779)
    Baroque Composer
    by Josh Davidson
William Boyce was one of England’s most significant contributors to Baroque music, active during the later part of the Baroque era, and still widely acclaimed in his own country after his death, particularly with the re-discovery of many of his works in 1930. Born in the highly-musical town of London in 1711 to cabinetmaker John Boyce and his wife Elizabeth, Boyce started his musical training at age 12 by joining the chorus at the famous St. Paul’s Cathedral. He later became a pupil of composer Maurice Greene. His first musical post was as organist at Oxford Chapel in 1734, and he soon moved on to become organist at St. Michael’s Cornhill, a job which he occupied for the majority of his life. During these early years, Boyce studied with Pepusch, a known musical scholar and theorist, stimulating his interest in past composers.
The year following this publication brought with it Boyce’s marriage to Hannah (whose last name is unknown). His first child, a daughter, was born in 1749, and his son - born fifteen years later - became a famous double-bass player in the London orchestras. Boyce, by the 1740’s, had branched out into music for theatre, including parts of Romeo and Juliet, Lethe, and The Chaplet. Following these with The Secular Masque in 1749, his dramatic scores had become well-respected in the London drama circle. While increasing deafness forced the end of his works for theatre, Boyce’s most prominent position was yet to come before him.

They seem to have been, anxious to "prove" their contention that nothing worthwhile emerged from our native composers between Purcell and Parry, if not Elgar. Our knowledge of Boyce’s music has been substantially extended by ASV’s admirable Gaudeamus series which has revived several of his odes. Sadly, this is the last in the series. Boyce put much of his compositional energy into royal odes for the monarch’s birthdays and for the New Year. These usually had just one performance. Some of their excellent overtures were recycled by Boyce and others have been revived during the last two generations. One of the later odes appears on this CD; more of that in a moment.
