Juli 1937 in Hollywood.

Biography
George Gershwin
Composer USA Born 26 Sep 1898
Died 11 Jul 1937
George Gershwin was a product of the jazz era. A songwriter of genius and a composer of superior musicals, he also wrote some serious concert works - all of which were filled with his own jazz-influenced language. In doing so, he became one of the most popular of composers with works like 'Swanee', 'Rhapsody in Blue', 'An American in Paris' and 'Porgy and Bess' becoming household names before his short life was over.
George Gershwin was born in Brooklyn of Russian-Jewish parents, newly arrived in America, in 1898. Music did not appear to figure in his life until he was 12, when a piano was bought for his more scholarly elder brother, Ira. It turned out that George had been teaching himself on a neighbour's piano and quickly showed his superior skill on the family's instrument. Teachers were found, the most important of whom was Charles Hambitzer. He tried to encourage George along orthodox classical lines but the boy was more attracted to popular song.
After attempting to pursue a career in accountancy, George entered the music world at the age of 15 by taking a job in Remick's, a publisher of popular songs in Tin Pan Alley. In endlessly demonstrating Remick's songs to singers and pianists, he gained valuable experience in how songs were created, but soon tired of the work because he was far more interested in creating his own songs - something his employers were not so keen on. However, Gershwin managed to record some piano rolls and had one song, 'Rialto Ripples', published by Remick's when he was 18. He left them in 1917 to work as an accompanist with small concerns that were producing musical comedies.

Entre ellas destacan 'The Man I Love', 'I Got Rhythm' y 'Someone to Watch Over Me'.
