home about me gallery links ... em@il home Welcome to the John O'Shaughnessy, amateur photographer website. On this site are photographs of some of my favourite locations. The best location for landscape photographs is Kerry, South-West Ireland especially around Valentia Island, Derrynane and Waterville. Other locations on this site include Chicago, Illinois, USA. My current camera is a Canon 500n, with a 28-80mm Canon lens. I also use a Soligor 19-35mm wide angle lens, a Canon 50mm macro lens, a Tamron 28-105mm and a Sigma 135-400mm zoom lens. My equipment also includes a Bronica ETRS medium format with 75mm lens. My choice of film includes Fuji Sensia and Fuji Velvia. Feel free to email me with any comments or questions. (T. S. Elliot ) OHN GIBSON was born in Dublin and began piano lessons with his mother at the age of five. Further studies were at the Dublin College of Music, the Royal Irish Academy of Music, where he studied composition with Dr A. J. Potter, the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Munich and with Prof. Valentyna Schubinskaya in Moscow. He has performed extensively as concerto soloist, recitalist, accompanist and chamber musician, and has worked with Karlheinz Stockhausen and Witold Lustoslawski. He is currently senior lecturer in piano and course co-ordinator for the MA in composition at the Cork School of Music. John Gibson's music has been performed in Ireland, England, America, Germany, France, Poland, Romania, Israel, Japan, Russia, Brazil and China. Awards include the Dublin Arts Festival Prize for String Quartet No. 2

John McLachlan (b. 1964) Index of Irish Composers PDF available ( see below Photo: Eugene Langan 'Music has not changed all that much. It is still concerned with the balance between intelligence and imagination: the anchor of technique and the flight of expression. Getting that balance right while renewing both is the modest task we set ourselves.' OHN MCLACHLAN was born in Dublin and studied music at the Royal Irish Academy of Music and Trinity College Dublin. He has studied composition with Joseph Groocock, William York, Hormoz Farhat, Robert Hanson and Kevin Volans. He recently gained a PhD from Trinity College Dublin on the compositional techniques of Boulez, Xenakis, Lutoslawski and Carter. His works, which range from solo instrumental to orchestral, have been performed in London, Amsterdam, Paris, Marseilles, Bucharest, Moldova, New York and throughout Ireland. His music has been broadcast on RTÉ, France 2, TeleRadio Romania and TR Moldova. Awards include composers' bursaries, a Composers' Apprenticeship from the Arts Council of Ireland and first prize in the New Music for Sligo composition competition. John McLachlan is currently Executive Director of the Association of Irish Composers.
