Csampai in Scala Nr.1/01: "Der 36-jährige Petter Sundkvist und seine jugendlichen Mitstreiter legen sich mit ganzem Herzenseinsatz für diesen Heroiker zwischen Gluck und Beethoven ins Zeug." Joseph Martin Kraus wurde 20. Juni 1756 in Mittenberg am Main geboren und starb am 16. Dezember 1792 an den Folgen einer Lungenerkrankung und überlebte Mozart somit um ein Jahr. Sein großes musikalisches Vorbild war Christoph Willibald Gluck. 1773 nahm er das Studium der Philosophie und Rechte auf, ging dann nach Erfurt, später nach Göttingen. König Gustav III rief ihn 1778 nach Stockholm, dort stand für ihn fest, Musiker und Komponist zu werden. Seinen ersten großen Erfolg hatte Kraus mit seiner Oper Proserpina (nach einem Libretto des Königs). Im selben Jahr (1782) schickte ihn der König auf eine ausgedehnte Studienreise (vier Jahre) durch Europa, auf der ihm Gluck und Haydn begegneten, einem lang von Kraus gehegten Wunsch. - Sein symphonisches Schaffen umfasst etwa fünfzehn Werke, wovon zwölf erhalten sind. Kraus tietenkin totteli. Hän saapui Grazin ja Triesten kautta Veneziaan marraskuun puolivälissä 1783. Ennen kuin jätämme Wienin, on kuitenkin kerrottava, että Krausilta jäi tuohon kaupunkiin romanttisen haaveellinen ystävyyssuhde valistuneen musiikinharrastajan Johann Samuel Liedemann in kanssa.
