Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart By Paul Musser paul@musica.co.uk Born 27 January, 1756, Salzburg, Austria Died 5 December, 1791, Vienna, Austria Perhaps the most celebrated composer in the history of music, Mozart's catalogue of music is even more impressive considering his tragic end. His musical style and grace epitomises the classical era, while his works have long since survived and continue to be concert hall favourites. Child Prodigy Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is one of the world's most famous child prodigies. His amazing talent displayed itself at an early age and by the time he was five he began composing in earnest. From this point on, musical ideas seemed to effortlessly flow from his head to paper without revision.

    Overview of repertory:
In his short life Mozart composed a wealth of music in all the significant instrumental genres (sonata, concerto, symphony, duo, trio, quartet, quintet, and so forth). His operas and church music were better noticed during his own lifetime.
    Method of identification of works:
We follow the title information given in the sources we use.
    Overview of sources used:
Our encodings of Mozart's music are based chiefly on W. A. Mozarts Werke
    Reference catalogue:
(first edn., 1862; 7th rev. edn., 1965). The standard method for referring to this catalogue is by the use of the letter K (e.g., K 601). Over the course of six editions some numbers have changed. We use the numbers given in the musical sources we use (see above) but where we notice conflicts, we attempt to provide the equivalent number from the latest edition of the catalogue.
    Work titles/numbers:

    Movement titles/numbers:
There are few complications to the naminig and numbering of movements within Mozart's works.

The Estates Theatre / Requiem / Beethoven Bertramka - Mozart Museum ... / A Brief Biography(inc works) The Estates Theatre (Stavovske) Built by Count Nostitz in 1783, and was originally called the Count Nostitz Theatre, it is one of the finest examples of Neo-Classical elegance in Prague and is a mecca for Mozart fans. On the 29 October 1787, Mozart's opera Don Giovanni had it's debut here with Mozart at the piano conducting the otchestra. Also in 1834 a musical called Fidlovacka had it's premiere here. One of the songs, Kde domov muj?(Where is my home?) became the Czech National Anthem. In 1920 the Stavovske Theatre became the second stage to the National Theatre and remains so today. Performances are orientated toward classic theatre, mostly operas by Mozart including Don Giovanni(1787), The Marriage of Figaro(1787) and La Clemenza di Tito(1791). In the summer months it hosts the chamber Opera Mozart. Top Requiem - The Death of Mozart Mozart's last work, Requiem, was composed under mysterious circumstances.
