Besides a number of fancy or non-standard tarots, mainly produced during the 16th century, the standard pattern adopted in northern France by those days was certainly inspired by the cards coming from Lombardy through Lyon, i.e. the Marseille tarot. But this was not the only influence received by the cardmakers of Paris. They certainly knew the Spanish cards, as well as the hunting decks from German-speaking countries, and - most of all - they knew the tarots from north-eastern Italy, similar in structure to the Lombard ones, but whose illustrations were probably judged more appealing. In fact, the Parisian trumps maintained differences which almost perfectly overlap the group of tarots from Ferrara - or from Venice, according to others - classified by Dummett as B, or eastern group (see

Andy Keillor's Wine Cellar
Updated...November 2000 Andy's Wine of the Week: 1. 1998 Ridge California Geyserville ($32 most places) A blend of Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Alicante Bouchet and sometimes a few other grapes. Usually very heavy on the Zinfandel. This in my opinion is hands down the best Zinfandel (blend) made anywhere in the world. Quality seems to have declined since 1994 (1990 and 1991 the best ever) but is still the best thing going. 2. NV Le Petit Vin D'Avril , available at Sendiks for ~$9.00 (non vintage Southern Rhone wine)-a blend of the 96, 97 and 98 vintages. The second wine of Clos De Pape, a top Chataneuf Du Pape producer. The wine consists of mostly Grenache (old vines, average age 45 years), but also contains a little Syrah and some Cabernet Sauvignon for depth and color. 3. 1998 Waterbrook Chardonnay, ~$11at all fine wine shops Smoking little Chardonnay from Washington's Columbia Valley. Well integrated oak and pear flavors are the focus of this wine. For the price it is probably the best Chardonnay I've had in a few years. Wine Spectator just gave it 89 points and a Spectator Selection status.

    About the Club
Poole Ju-Jitsu Club are based in Poole, Dorset in the U.K and are members of the British Ju-Jitsu Association. The club was established in 1998 by Andy walker. After moving to Dorset from Leeds Andy had no luck finding a ju-jitsu club, so, missing training, he decided to open his own club. Andy had to get in touch with the Bushido Ju-Jitsu Academy in Cheshire, which was founded by sensei James Pape 7th Dan. Sensei Pape guided Andy through the many steps and pit falls of opening a martial arts club. After finding a hall to hire, and a little advertising , Poole Ju-Jitsu Club was established. The first night was a little on the thin side with just around five or six students attending but as word got around the numbers soon increased. The club now has a firm footing in the Dorset area and is well known for having some excellent students, some of whom are now approaching their black belt gradings. We are growing from strength to strength and look forward to many more busy years ahead for the club. s="na";c="na";j="na";f=""+escape(document.referrer)

It's hardly the most promising of news to be told an hour before the start of the new season that your numbero uno keeper has a blood infection, and is likely to be out for quite some time. The replacement for Andy Pape was Andy Hall, who filled in so well last season. The opposition were of course, basking in the knowledge that they had ex Liverpool keeper Bruce Grobbelaar between the sticks. Also on show were old boys Mark Pye and Micky Engwell, who first joined Enfield with Graham Roberts. (Ooops, I promised myself not to mention him at all in this report.) The cameras were all behind the Enfield goal, observing Grobbelaar. Brucie had a decent game of it. True - he did look to be a little unsure of what to make of some of our supporters, and had a few conversations as he was about to take goal kicks, but to my knowledge there were no instances of an exchange of brown paper envelopes! No. To his credit, Grobbelaar handled himself well (if you forgive the pun). The main action centered around the last couple of minutes of first half stoppage time. Dunwell had just headed over the top after that man Brucie had gone walkabout to challenge Annon outside the penalty area and been found wanting. Almost straightaway, Chesham went upfield and took the lead through Winston. Moments later referee Armstrong gave gave Chesham a chance to make it 2-0 from the spot after their forward was adjudged to have been bought down just inside the box. Winston duly obliged, for his second of the match.

The result lifted the Dons back up to third in the Ryman League Premier Division. Last season Hendon reached the 30-point mark on 9 February, in their 24th match. In 2002-03, 30 points have come from 16 matches. The only change to the starting line-up was Ricci Crace regaining his starting spot for the first time in a month, at the expense of Martin Randall, who dropped to the bench. More importantly, the starting formation was the one that has seen most of Hendon's best performances this season. Nevertheless the early portents were not good. In the 8th minute, a quick break resulted in a neat reverse pass which sat up nicely for Nick BAILEY, whose shot beat David Hook. Mark Cooper made an important interception as Hendon struggled to get back into the game. But a magnificent equaliser changed the face of the game. In the 22nd minute, following some sloppy Sutton defending, the ball fell to Steve FORBES who lashed a 25-yarder that flew past Andy Pape into the roof of the net.

Lions Remain Perfect at Home Andy Osborn scored 15 points as the Lions defeat Cal State Fullerton 75-68. Dec. 7, 2002 Box Score Los Angeles - Loyola Marymount University built a 13-point second half lead and held on down the stretch to defeat Cal State Fullerton 75-68 at Gersten Pavilion on Saturday night. The Lions (4-3), who improve to 3-0 at home in 2002-03, had four players in double figures, including sophomore Andy Osborn's team-high 15 points. Pape Sow led all scorers with 19 points and 10 rebounds. "It was an outstanding win by our team," said Head Coach Steve Aggers . "We remained undefeated at home and survived a hard-fought game. It was like a boxing match, going back and forth. We took a step back and regrouped for a good win." Cal State Fullerton erased most of the Lions 13-point second half lead and cut it to one, 65-64 when Bron Groomes completed a three-point play at the 2:41 mark of the second half.
