Robeson Jr. will speak at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Stetson Room of the Carlton Union Building, on the Stetson campus, 131 E. Minnesota Ave. The program is part of the Spring 2003 Howard Thurman Lecture Series at Stetson. Admission is free and open to the public. For more information, call (386) 822-8920. Robeson is a freelance journalist, translator and lecturer on American and Russian history (he attended school as a child for a time in Moscow). He also is the author of a book on his father titled "The Undiscovered Paul Robeson: An Artist's Journey, 1898-1939," which was published in 2001. In the book's preface, Robeson says part of the reason he wrote the biography was to dispel "the media-nurtured myth that his (father's) political persecution stemmed from a 'love affair' with communism, or that he was 'duped' by Russian or American communists." Instead, Robeson writes, "the reason for his banishment from the nation's public life lies in his relentless challenge not only to anti-black stereotypes but also to the cultural foundations of American racism."

Home About Contact Design ... Pricing The idea of clean, tasteful, no-nonsense design is at the core of our philosophy. There's no mystery to it. But there's also no quick solution to creating a good 'look-and-feel' for a web site. The issues that affect a site's design need to be spelled out. Who will be browsing the site? Who will need to use the site? Will it be just a 'storefront'? Or will there be business transacting behind the scenes? The answers to these questions determine where the time spent building a site is invested. And, when a tight budget is involved, as it often is, knowing where to spend time and money is as good as saving time and money. Tech-Space provides design services encompassing all the hottest design techology: F lash, D HTML, and general photo-graphic V oodoo. For a nice show and tell, check out samples from our portfolio:
LewisSpratlan.com
For composer and 2000 Pulitzer Prize winner, Lewis Spratlan , publishing is a largely self-directed business. He wanted a simple, elegant site, with a bio, links to news articles on his work, and a detailed list of his music published by the venerable G. Schirmer, Inc. But most of all, he needed an avenue of growth for his own publishing business. He is among the many successful artists and writers turning to the web to increase their exposure and lower their costs.

Pulitzer prizes focus on tragedy
Columbine, Kosovo, Korea stories praised
By Beth J. Harpaz, Associated Press writer
NEW YORK The Washington Post won three Pulitzer Prizes yesterday, including the public service award for the second year in a row. The Wall Street Journal took two honors, and The Associated Press won for investigative reporting on the killing of civilians by U.S. troops at the start of the Korean War.
Denver's two daily newspapers each won a Pulitzer for their coverage of the massacre at Columbine High School, which has come to symbolize America's gun-violence epidemic. The staff of The Denver Post won for breaking news reporting and the Denver Rocky Mountain News photo staff won the spot news photography award.
Carol Guzy, Michael Williamson and Lucian Perkins of The Washington Post won the feature photography award for covering the plight of the Kosovo refugees. The winning images included a heartbreaking picture of a little boy being untangled from a barbed wire fence he was trying to climb.
Washington Post reporters won two other Pulitzers: in public service for stories exposing neglect and abuse in local group homes for the mentally retarded and in the criticism category for Henry Allen's writing about photography.
