FICHA Nacionalidad: Estados Unidos Oraniembaum, Rusia 1882 - Nueva York 1971 Fue discípulo de Rimski-Korsakov. En "Scherzo Fantástico" y "Fuego de artificio" ya se empieza a definir su estilo. A petición de Diaghilev, compuso "Pájaro de fuego", que le elevó a la fama. A esta época también pertenece "El ruiseñor", "El rey de las estrellas" y tres piezas para cuarteto de cuerda, entre otras obras. En todas ellas se aprecian influencias de su primer maestro, de Debussy y también de Ravel. Otra de las notas que distingue sus composiciones es el aire folklórico que en ellas imprime. Stravinski continúa trabajando en esta línea hasta que escribe "Pulcinella", obra dotada de grandes innovaciones. Su trayectoria sigue por un camino más clásico que recuerda a maestros de la talla de Haendel Gluck o Verdi . De este periodo neoclásico son la "Sinfonía de los Salmos", "Peréphone" y la ópera "Oedipus rex". En la década de los años veinte se marcha a Estados Unidos. Estando en este país estalla la Segunda Guerra Mundial por lo que adopta la nacionalidad norteamericana.
