If you are an individual who is recovering from the deadly disease of alcohol or drug addiction, or a loved one of someone recovering (or needs recovery) then you are welcome at Sober 24 . The only requirement is a desire to get well, one day at a time, 24 hours a day (Sober24 ).
Sober24 is a safe, supportive "Virtual Fellowship" for those in recovery from alcohol and drug abuse and the friends and family who love them. Within, you will find bulletin boards and chat rooms where you can get support when you need it, and offer your own support to those who can benefit from it. Promise of New Beginnings Sobriety and each day combine the most powerful message of all a promise of new beginnings. When I finally discovered sobriety I soon realized that the only thing I needed to change was everything. After the initial fear, I realized this was my opportunity to live the life I had really always really sought clean, joyful, spontaneous, loving, purposeful, productive, compassionate and to join with others rather than running from them. That promise is available to all who seek it, and especially at a local 12-Step meeting. My hope is that you will join us there in finding your own new beginning. Terry M., Webservant

Benzodiazepine's are given out by the medical profession for many different reasons and conditions. However, it can be very dangerous to be prescribed certain drug cocktails, as you can see from the story below. The following is an excerpt from Part One of Carol's story. We begin in November 1991 when Carol is sitting in the doctor's chair complaining of severe upper abdominal pain. "Sounds like gallstones," said the doctor, "but as there is a long waiting list I'll prescribe you some painkillers. Take two 50 mg tablets every 3 hours."
This was for Pethidine. Well at the time I did not know it was a highly addictive Opiate and a Class A drug. My husband Steve soon noticed a change in me and mentioned it to the doctor, who told him that I could take them for life.
I am usually outgoing, extrovert, bubbly and a lover of life but after eighteen months on these drugs I become insecure, depressed and withdrawn.

http://www.jimmiehalemission.com
The Jimmie Hale Mission was founded in March 1944 by a converted alcoholic named Jimmie Hale. He wanted to help others who were struggling with life as he had. The Mission started out as a storefront chapel and over the years grew to include a shelter for men, community soup kitchen, alcohol and drug recovery program, a shelter for women and children, thrift store, and a learning center. We now have five facilities: Brother Leo Men's Center houses our Homeless Shelter for men, our Downtown Recovery Program, Community Soup Kitchen, Men's Clothing Distribution and our nightly Chapel Service Program. Royal Pines Center is our 12-week, Bible-based, in-residence alcohol and drug recovery program. It is a 24-bed facility located in the Bangor area of Blount County. On March 30, 1998, we opened Jessie's Place, our shelter for women and children. It is a 30-bed facility located at 2305 5th Avenue North. We named it Jessie's Place in honor of Mrs. Jessie Hale Downs. We opened our own thrift store on April 17, 2000. We named it Mission Possible Bargain Center. It is located near Eastwood Mall at the corner of Oporto-Madrid and Montclair Road. We need your good usable items of clothing, household items, and furniture. All the proceeds from the Bargain Center will go to Jimmie Hale Mission ministries. For information or to donate resellable items call 956-5658.

The Addiction Recovery Guide assists individuals struggling with drug addiction and alcoholism find help that best suits their needs. From evaluation to residential treatment centers, we have selected a range of outstanding programs. The most widely recommended treatment approach is total abstinence and the 12-step program.
Cravings can be significantly helped by new medications, and also by diet, vitamins, amino acids and other holistic approaches such as meditation and yoga. Because psychological illnesses and traumas may also underlie many addictions, treatment by mental health practitioners can be an important part of the process.

This focus deliberately takes our community's previous learning at The Institute for Staged Recovery and advances the peer-driven possibilities of community healing at all levels. Ana Venezia is the Director of this project which addresses the dynamic, holistic process of recovery. "I think of addiction as the sacred disease...Very probably, God created alcoholism in order to create AA, and thereby spearhead the community movement which is going to be the salvation not only of alcoholics and addicts, but of us all."
-M. Scott Peck, M.D.

In our APH community we have considerable years of recovery and we understand the addictive disease process from the inside out. We have experienced freedom from addiction and compulsions through two distinct phases: primary and complete recovery.
