Lupus erythematosus is an autoimmune disease. For unknown reasons, the autoimmune system becomes overactive and begins to attack the body's own cells. This causes inflammation, resulting in rashes, pain, and sometimes organ damage. It can target any of the following: skin, joints, eyes, kidneys, lungs, heart, and brain. The symptoms of lupus can vary, making diagnosis difficult, and time-consuming. The following lists the most common symptoms.

Christian Lupus
(WOLF) Innocent XI condemned sixty-five of the propositions denounced by him. On his return to Louvain he was appointed regius professor of theology, the first time a religious had ever held this office. His writings were published in thirteen parts, the first twelve at Venice, 1724-1729, in six folio volumes, the thirteenth at Bologna, in 1742. The first six under the title "Synodorum generalium et provincialium statuta et canones cum notis et historicis dissertationibus" (1665-1673) contain a detailed history of the councils, with many learned dissertations. The seventh part contains: "Ad Ephesinum concilium variorum patrum epistolas, item commonitorium Coelestini papae, titulos decretorum Hilarii papae" (Louvain, 1682). He also wrote critical replies to Quesnel, Boileau, and Gerbais. His writings, however, are mostly collections of historical materials, usually but little elaborated by him. PATRICIUS SCHLAGER.

Lupus May Have Simple Cause
New research from scientists at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), has revealed that a single defect in a common protein causes a severe autoimmune disease akin to lupus. New Diagnostic Test For Lupus Scientists at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle have developed a new diagnostic test for lupus which will improve detection of the autoimmune disease, from your About Guide to Arthritis, Carol Eustice. Welcome to the website of the Lupus Foundation of Colorado. We hope our website will provide you with helpful information and resources to aid in your understanding and managing of this serious chronic disease. Our goal in developing this website is to provide you with the latest and most up to date information about lupus. Whether you are newly diagnosed with lupus, a longtime family member or friend, or a member of the medical community, this website will provide you with a better understanding of lupus and tools to manage your lupus more effectively. Our programs and supportive services are designed to increase awareness and improve the quality of life for people living with lupus through education, community outreach services, and support of research that will lead to better treatment and an eventual cure. Lupus is a chronic inflammatory autoimmune disease that is difficult to diagnose, difficult to manage and to date there is not a cure. For most people, lupus is a mild disease affecting only a few body organs; for others, it may cause serious and even life threatening problems. Current statistics indicate that lupus affects adult women approximately 10 times more frequently than men. Children are also affected by lupus. Even though lupus is more prevalent in this country than AIDS, sickle cell anemia, cerebral palsy and cystic fibrosis, it is the least known of all major diseases.
