Report Five Cases of Lymphangioma of the Mediastinum in Adult
Taro Oshikiri, MD, Toshiaki Morikawa, MD, Eisei Jinushi, MD,
Yoshikazu Kawakami, MD, PhD, and Hiroyuki Katoh, MD, PhD Mediastinal lymphangioma is a rare disease. Above all the cavernous type of mediastinal lymphangioma is very rare. We report 5 cases of mediastinal lymphangioma including cavernous type. All underwent a computed tomographic (CT) scan, which revealed smoothly marginated and cystic lymphargioma. All were surgically resected and specimens were classified pathologically into cystic type (3 cases), cavernous type (1 case) and a mixed type of the two (1 case). Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was performed in the cavernous type and it suggested that the mass was lymphangioma because of a pathognomonic lesion. Despite that preoperative diagnosis of mediastinal lymphangioma is difficult, MRI is a useful examination. In the follow-ups there has been no recurrence in our series. (Ann Thorac Cardiovasc Surg 2001; 7: 103-5) Key words: mediastinal lymphangioma, cavernous type, MRI

Lymphangioma Endothelial cells of lymphangioma are: Factor VIII negative (hemangiomas positive) Ulex europeas agglutinin I positive (hemangiomas also positive) Localized lymphangioma circumscription - single patch thick walled vesicles, less than 1 cm, onset later in life common (variant progressive LC - young, in college, in size) Classic lymph circ - large patches with vesicles at birth (occasionally later), diffuse swelling underneath or rarely cystic hydroma lesion underneath skin verrucoid between vesicles, path cisterns with muscular coat Cavernous - lipoma-like, mouth area number 1, in neck or axilla = cystic hygroma

This response submitted by RW Enzenauer, MD on 6/25/00.
I suspect that you will find something if you search the INTERNET. But be sure to spell the condition correctly, or your search will be fruitless. a LYMPHANGIOMA is a malfomation, most commonly benign, or lymphatic vessels. It rarely occurs in the orbits. It is common in the hedad and neck, and often requires surgery because the growth in the neck can interfere with breathing and swallowing. Robert W. Enzenauer, MD, MPH

Lymphangioma of the bone is a benign lesion, characterized by newly formed lymph vessels. It usually occurs in a diffuse manner or as multiple lesions. Solitary lymphangioma of the bone is an extremely rare condition. We herein describe a case of solitary lymphangioma of the femur in a 55-year-old woman who presented with knee pain. Radiographs showed an eccentric osteolytic lesion in the distal femur. This is the first reported case of solitary lymphangioma of the bone occurring in the femur.

Department of Oncological and Thoracic Surgery Keywords cystic lymphangioma, retroperitoneal cystic lymphangioma, abdominal retroperitoneal lymphangioma. Summary In 1997 we observed a case report : a 31-year-old woman with a cystic lymphangioma located on retroperitoneum and involving intestinal and vascular structures.
Cystic lymphangioma is an extremely rare disease and is often located on the neck and arm pit ( 75% of cases ), while an intrabdominal location takes place in 5% of cases.
Computerized axial tomography and echo tomography have made diagnosis possible.
Surgical therapy is the preferred treatment, there is no therapeutic option at all. Radical surgical excission of lymphangiomatosis lesions becomes necessary to avoid relapses.
We report this case to investigate the importance of early diagnosis and right surgical treatment. Introduction RCL is a rare benign neoplasm of retroperitoneal or mesodermal lymphatic origin with many clinical presentations, it is an unusual disease generally reported in infants, children and in adults rarely.

Lymphadenitis and lymphangitis
Definition: An infection of the lymph nodes (glands) and lymph channels.
Alternative Names: Lymph node infection; Lymph gland infection; Localized lymphadenopathy
Causes, incidence, and risk factors: The lymphatic system is a network of vessels (channels), nodes (glands) and organs. It functions as part of the immune system to protect against and fight infection, inflammation, and cancers. It also functions in the transport of fluids, fats, proteins , and other substances within the body. The lymph glands, or lymph nodes, are small structures that filter the lymph fluid. There are many white blood cells in the lymph nodes to help fight infection.
Lymphadenitis and lymphangitis are common complications of bacterial infections. Lymphadenitis involves inflammation of the
