The Psoriasis Association The Association Founded in 1968. It is an important self-help organisation providing support and information on all aspects of the condition to sufferers, carers, health professionals and others. More research projects are being supported every year, especially those investigating genetic aspects. There are strong national and international links and the Association strives constantly to improve patient care. The membership of the Association is open to any with an interest in psoriasis. It publishes a journal Psoriasis in April, August and December each year. In some areas there are groups of sufferers who meet regularly for mutual support, talks, fundraising and special events. The Association provides information packs to thousands of enquirers every year. A Psoriasis Awareness Week takes place in July each year. Psoriasis Psoriasis is a common skin condition which can occur on any part of the body at any age as raised red patches covered with silvery scales. It is very definitely neither infectious nor contagious. It is in simple terms only a vast acceleration of the usual replacement processes of the skin, but the basic causes remain unknown. Hereditary factors are thought to play an important part, with a genetic tendency being triggered by such things as injury, throat infections, certain drugs, and stress. Psoriasis is a common dermatosis, affecting from 1 to 3 percent of the population. Until recently, the mainstays of topical therapy have been corticosteroids, tars, anthralins and keratolytics. Recently, however, vitamin D analogs, a new anthralin preparation and topical retinoids have expanded physicians' therapeutic armamentarium. These new topical therapies offer increased hope and convenience to the large patient population with psoriasis. P soriasis, one of the most common dermatoses, occurs in 1 to 3 percent of the population. Although it is rarely life-threatening, psoriasis can cause significant morbidity, social embarrassment, financial cost and disruption in patients' lives. While patients with extensive and severe disease may require potent oral therapy, less severe psoriasis is typically treated with topical medications. This article reviews both the power and the limitations of topical therapies in the treatment of psoriasis. FIGURE 1.

Hoe ga ik met Psoriasis om? (kijk ook op de algemene site over psoriasis van mij) Ik heb psoriasis in een uitgebreide vorm sinds begin 90-er jaren. In het begin was er nog niet zoveel aan de hand, maar in de loop van 1994 werden de psoriasisplekken steeds groter. Toen was ik nog niet echt bekend met alle middeltjes die er op de markt waren "tegen psoriasis". Inmiddels weet ik dat ik er de rest van m'n (inmiddels 33-jarige) leven aan vast zal zitten. In 1995 kwam ik in aanraking met het Psoriasis Dagbehandelcentrum in Ede . Dit is één van de drie behandelcentra die vergoed wordt door mijn verzekeringsmaatschappij. Hier ben ik 2x30 behandelingen geweest en de resultaten waren goed. Toen kwam ik ook in aanraking met de Jongeren WerkGroep van de psoriasisvereniging Later ben ik gaan werken en vond ik het erg lastig om mijn toenmalige baas te vragen of ik gedurende 10 weken drie dagen per week naar een behandelcentrum mocht, dus ben ik zelf gaan zoeken. Verder heb ik vele andere middeltjes geprobeerd, maar een echt goed werkend middel ben ik niet tegengekomen. Het komt veelal neer op vette zalven met allerlei mooie namen die de schilfering losweken, maar niets essentieels met de huid doen. Eind 2001 had ik weer een behandeling in Ede afgerond, helaas met weinig resultaat. Bovenstaande zalven gebruik ik nog steeds, maar daarnaast kreeg ik toen ook fumaraattabletten. Binnen een maand was ik val bijna alle psoriasis af! Op dit moment ben ik bijna schoon. Ik heb nog een paar hele kleine plekjes die mij eraan herinneren dat ik een psoriasis patient ben, ik smeer als het nodig is en alleen de fumaraat slik ik elke dag 3 tabletten. Hiervoor moet ik ongeveer elke drie maanden voor controle naar mijn dermatoloog, maar dat heb ik er graag voor over. Ik heb geen last meer van jeuk of wat dan ook.

Por ese motivo debemos estar unidos , porque al estar unidos sabremos más cosas , conoceremos más la enfermedad , no estaremos solos porque sabremos que hay más personas que padecen lo mismo . Como podréis comprobar en esta enfermedad no se invierten grandes cantidades de dinero para su investigación y curación . Las grandes cantidades de dinero las invertimos nosotros en el pago de los médicos y las medicinas. Ningún sistema sanitario oficial y no oficial nos ofrece nada nuevo, y para ser más concretos "no hacen nada por esta enfermedad". Nos han dejado solos con la psoriasis , aunque muchos viven de nosotros por decirlo de alguna forma. La única solución que se nos ha ocurrido es hacer una web donde poder reunirnos y expresarnos . Y quizás entre unos y otros podamos sentirnos mejor y luchar con más fuerza contra la psoriasis.
