The emotions we experience not only reflect the depth of pain, but also indicate our real responses to life and to God. Stone Gate Resources offers hope with hard answers to difficult questions. It is a ministry that offers substantial change with what is wrong with our lives without giving shallow spiritual advice. All our resources are directed towards finding God and meaningfully overcoming what is wrong.

Sexual Addiction
Sexual addiction or sexual compulsivity is indicated when individuals engage in persistent and escalating patterns of sexual behavior, acting out in spite of negative consequences to self and others. Addictive sexual behaviors may include compulsive masturbation, consistent use of pornography, unsafe sex, multiple affairs, sexual anorexia, multiple or anonymous partners, telephone or cybersex, sexual massage, escorts, or prostitution. Consequences usually develop emotionally and physically, in relationships, and in social, legal, and financial areas of life. Sexual addiction can affect both males and females. The article below may provide some insight about women dealing with sexual addiction. Controlled By Desire
By Carol J. Ross, MA, CADAC
Published In February 1998 Issue of
Professional Counselor Magazine
Judy always felt different. Much like her childhood friends, men would be pleased and amazed by her sexual desires, but they would quickly leave her, physically or emotionally. Judy blamed the men. They simply couldn't handle her unquenchable desires. They couldn't keep up with her. They used her. She also blamed herself. If she just kept trying harder to intrigue and please men sexually, she thought, eventually she would find the right mate—one as "sexually mature" as herself. After finding that mate, her fantasy life with her husband soon crumbled into terror at his rage and his physical brutality toward her. Her depression, suicidal plans, and an uncharacteristic lack of sexual desire began to overshadow her life.

Addictions The hallmark of Sierra Tucson 's treatment is its unique ability to look at the whole person and treat patients effectively. Unlike other treatment methods in which a patient is labeled according to a particular diagnostic criterion such as alcohol dependency, Sierra Tucson works with each patient to identify and resolve the unique core issues that underlie presenting problems, as well as address the patient's destructive life behaviors. Alcohol/Chemical Dependency The basis for treatment of alcohol and other chemical dependencies, as well as other disorders, stems from the Sierra Model . This model integrates philosophies and practices from the medical, psychological, therapeutic and self-help communities, and family systems theory. The 12-Step philosophy is foundational to our program. Our ability to address the needs of a broader range of patients is brought about by incorporating psychiatric, medical, and emerging alternative therapies. The result is a powerful treatment experience. Our whole-person approach to treatment looks at all aspects of each individual.
The primary group is the central component of the treatment experience. Patients undergo an individualized treatment program, which may include disease and recovery education, relapse prevention, 12-Step meetings, adventure and equine-assisted therapies, and grief and spirituality sessions. Specialty groups focus on specific areas of concern, such as eating disorders, compulsive behaviors, nicotine cessation, cocaine and heroin addiction, depression, and anxiety disorders.

"My clients often ask me how they can tell if their thoughts and activities are addictive as they move along in the process of recovery and no longer find themselves pulled to the clearly addictive use of sexual energy. The answer that makes intuitive sense to me is to check whether thoughts or actions are narrowing down and constricting your experience of life or are opening up and enhancing it. Addiction searches for the most immediate pleasure and prevention of pain. This is quite different from a life that is expansive - open to the pain of grief, the despair of healing from loneliness and the enriching joy of living life fully." WHO ARE WE?
We are a Christian Group of former sex addicts (homosexuals, heterosexuals, bisexuals, lesbians, adulterers, fornicators, masturbators, sex offenders, porn addicts, cybersex addicts, and all sexually immoral) who have come to terms with our brokenness and our inability to change through our own methods; but, only through the great power of The Father, The Son (Jesus Christ) and The Holy Spirit, is change made possible in our lives. We are committed to the Lord Jesus Christ and stand firmly on the belief that He loves all sinners, and that by His Blood that was sacrificed on the Cross at Calvary, our sins were paid for in full. Through allowing the Lord Jesus Christ to come into our hearts and trusting in Him as our Savior, He will always be with us through all trials and tribulations by providing us a way out. It is through God's only Son, Jesus Christ, we are all saved

Recovery from Sexual Addiction
an interview with Mark Laaser
STEPS: I'd like to start by talking about some of the common myths and misunderstandings about sexual addiction. First of all, there have been quite a few stories in the news recently about sexual offenders. In several conversations about those news reports I have been struck by the fact that people in the Christian community are often unable to distinguish between sexual offenders and sexual addicts. Mark: It's a common misunderstanding. But only a very small percentage of sexual addicts become sexual offenders. The cases that make the newspapers are, however, the most perverse cases and therefore have an exaggerated effect on people's perception of the problem of sexual addiction. But offenders are only 1 percent or less of the people who struggle with sexual addiction. It's important to remember than a sexual offender is a person who has used physical force to gain sexual access or who has used some kind of emotional or even spiritual force to gain control over a person physically, emotionally or spiritually in order to gain sexual access. That improper use of force or authority is what, in my mind, puts a person in the category of sexual offender. For example, a pastor who uses the authority of his role to gain sexual access to people who respect that authority - that's what we mean by sexual offender.

Women and Sexual Addiction M arnie Ferree Sin or Disease?
So what is the solution? Sexual addiction is a multifaceted disease, and it requires a multifaceted solution. There is a physiological aspect to the problem. We know that there is a neurochemical component to sex addiction. The neurochemical changes that happen in your brain when you engage in sexual activity are closely related to the changes that take place in your brain when you take crack cocaine. So there is a physiological, biological base to this addiction. There is also an emotional component to this addiction. The shame that the addicted person feels is overwhelming. There is a mental component. There is a relationship component. And there is a spiritual component. All these components need to be addressed if the addicted person is to experience healing. Characteristics of Addiction
There are other characteristics to all addictions. All addictions lead to an unmanageable life. It is a progressive or degenerative process. Addictions are used to escape feelings. What an addiction does is alter our moods.

What Is Sexual Addiction?
Michael Herkov, Ph.D., Mark S. Gold, M.D., and Drew W. Edwards, M.S.
6 Feb 2001
Sexual addiction is best described as a progressive intimacy disorder characterized by compulsive sexual thoughts and acts. Like all addictions, its negative impact on the addict and on family members increases as the disorder progresses. Over time, the addict usually has to intensify the addictive behavior to achieve the same results. For some sex addicts, behavior does not progress beyond compulsive masturbation or the extensive use of pornography or phone or computer sex services. For others, addiction can involve illegal activities such as exhibitionism, voyeurism, obscene phone calls, child molestation or rape. Sex addicts do not necessarily become sex offenders. Moreover, not all sex offenders are sex addicts. Roughly 55 percent of convicted sex offenders can be considered sex addicts. About 71 percent of child molesters are sex addicts. For many, their problems are so severe that imprisonment is the only way to ensure society's safety against them. Society has accepted that sex offenders act not for sexual gratification, but rather out of a disturbed need for power, dominance, control or revenge, or a perverted expression of anger. More recently, however, an awareness of brain changes and brain reward associated with sexual behavior has led us to understand that there are also powerful sexual drives that motivate sex offenses.
