    There are almost certainly other ways to do this and some may be simpler or easier for you, however, the following works and uses tools which are either free or shareware and readily available at UNB. In this directory are a couple of sample files which you may freely use to help you in rendering math formulas. You will have to learn enough TeX to be able to compose mathematical formulas using the TeX document composition system. You can then use the Makefile included in this directory and with the command: make object optional overrides generate images such as: or Note that the Makefile included in this directory assumes that you will be developing your images on the UofNB CSD system and that certain other files are installed in particular locations. If this assumption is not true, then you may want to retrieve the following files instead of the Makefile. Makefile The Makefile to install in your development directory rather than the simplified Makefile above. You may wish to change the defaults in this file which are set for the convenience of someone developing a TeX document rather than GIF images.

the math formula to calculate the monthly mortgage payment into a mortgage calculator
The calculator pops up when you click on a tray icon, or press a key combination.
The calculator gives you
  • the monthly payment when you specify the exact amount, interest and duration of the loan.
  • a payment graph when you specify a range of values for one parameter, e.g. interest rate between 6% and 7%.
  • a two dim grid when you specify two ranges, e.g the interest rate between 6% and 7% and the duration 10 to 30 years.

previous "how-to" next It is easy to calculate a set math formulas. When you have just one output variable it is the normal calculation with substitution formulas. But you can also have two output variables: E.g. the mortgage calculator calculates the total amount or the monthly payment. The resulting calculation dialog shows the required values (marked with a '*') and the optional values. The optional entry field left blank will be calculated! The formulas used to calculate the result are shown above and the target is marked with '>'. If you change the parameters the target will be calculated again. It is not neccesary to empty it! If you like to calculate another target just fill the parameters and empty the new target. Note the rounding error in this calculation! Order your license from my secure online shop.

    The 4 sections of examples are:
  • Area and Perimeter Mean, Median, Mode Pythagorean Theorem Interest, Cost, Distance as a function of rate and time
  • Area and Perimeter
    Area – measures what an object can contain inside. Formula always contains multiplication. Perimeter – measures the distance around an object. Formula usually contains addition, with circles being the exception.
    Example 1 – use the diagram below to find the area and perimeter of the square if s = 5 m.
    s is the variable used to denote the side length.
    Area s = 5m A = s A = 5 m A = 25 m Perimeter S = 5m P = 4s P = 4
    P = 20 m
    Example 2 – use the diagram below to find the area and perimeter of the rectangle if l = 9m and w l is the variable used to denote the length. w is the variable used to denote the width. Area A = lw with l = 9 m and w A = 9 * 7 A = 63 m
    Perimeter
    P = 2 l w with l = 9 m and w P = 2(9) + 2(7) P = 18 + 14
    P = 32m
    Example 3 - use the diagram below to find the area and perimeter of the parallelogram if b = 8 m and b = 3 m.

    MATH FORMULAS for EVERYDAY LIVING Loren K. Bybee Uptime Publications ORDER CONTENTS SUMMARY ... WORD PROBLEMS
    Introduction The formulas contained in this book are those that you will or have encountered, though normal occurrences in your life. You now have the ability to have answers to these problems. By having the ability to figure out the answers on your own, you will then have more control and/or more knowledge to make the correct decisions that affect you. The hardest part of math formulas, is understanding what all of the symbols mean and the necessary steps to work the formula correctly. The goal of this book is to make formulas easy to understand by removing symbols whenever possible and by showing each step. In most examples only one element of an equation has been worked so that you can easily follow the steps taken. Please note that in ten point italic lettering, are notes that aid you in working the problem. Whenever the word "calculate" is used, that means to use a calculator. The only calculator used in the making of this book was a ten year old Texas Instrument Model 30 SLR. The newer Model TI-30Xa works as well. Both calculators cost about twenty dollars. The amount of written words has been kept to a minimum, to make this text useful as a easy and quick reference manual.
