Contenido de la página: Síntesis de Haber para producción de amoniaco La síntesis del amoniaco descubierta y puesta a punto por Haber es un buen ejemplo de la ambivalencia de los avances científicos. En relación con este tema se propone la siguiente lectura que se ha preparado adaptando un texto de "Ciencia y Sociedad" (The Open University Unidades 33 y 34. Ed Mcgraw-hill 1974 pp 66 a 74) junto a un cuadro de la vida de Haber adaptado de un artículo de Investigación y Ciencia (septiembre de 1997): "El problema de los fertilizantes químicos". Los descubrimientos científicos: ¿un bien o un mal?. El título de este estudio es engañoso. Parece frío y poco interesante. Sin embargo tiene que ver con uno de los avances más fascinantes de la química del siglo XIX, que cambió el curso de la historia. Los compuestos que contienen nitrógeno, tales como las proteínas y ácidos nucleicos constituyen componentes esenciales de todos los organismos vivos. Todos estos compuestos de nitrógeno llegan a los organismos a partir de los nitratos del suelo.
