1916-tól a fotóeffektussal foglakozott. Mérései vezettek el a Planck állandó pontos meghatározásához. Ezzel a méréssel a foton fejezeten belül foglalkozunk. 1921-tõl a Kaliforniai Mûszaki Egyetem (Caltech) professzora lesz. Ez idõtõl a

Karl Hofstetter Physics Research Paper Robert Millikan In 1923 the Royal Academy of Sciences awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics to Doctor Robert Millikan. He received the Nobel Prize for his work on the elementary charge of electricity as well as the photoelectric effect. His famous oil drop experiment is regarded as one of the most important experiments in modern physics.
Education and a Young Scientist Robert Millikan was born March 22, 1868 in Morrison Illinois. He attended Oberlin College in Ohio in 1886. Following his graduation he began teaching elementary physics. After he received his masters in physics he was appointed Fellow in Physics at Columbia University. He then received his Ph.D. in 1895 for research on the polarization of light emitted by incandescent surfaces. After spending a year in Germany he became the assistant at the Ryerson Laboratory at the University of Chicago. He became a professor there in 1910 and held that post until 1921. While there he spent much of his time trying to simplify the teaching of physics as well as writing textbooks.
Millikan’s Most Famous Accomplishment During his career as a scientist he made many valuable discoveries.

Millikan
Robert Millikan
Physicist Robert Andrews Millikan was an authority on cosmic rays, the highly energized electrons and ions striking the Earth's atmosphere. The noted physicist gave the rays their name. Millikan won the Nobel Prize in physics in 1923 for isolating the electron and measuring its charge. Born in Morrison, Ill., Millikan grew up in Iowa, arriving with his family at age 4. He was one of six children of a Congregational minister who served parishes at McGregor and Maquoketa. Millikan once said that he had "milked more than 10,000 cows when I was between 8 and 18, and I curried more than 20,000 horses - and liked it."

Murray Gell-Mann is a Distinguished Fellow and Co-Chairman of the Science Board of the Santa Fe Institute. He is also the Robert Andrews Millikan Professor of Theoretical Physics Emeritus at the California Institute of Technology. In 1969 Gell-Mann was awarded the Nobel Prize in physics "for his contributions and discoveries concerning the classification of elementary particles and their interactions." Do you often give nicknames to people or things?
Not especially. Sometimes using the etymology of the names, but otherwise not. Are there any nicknames you are known by?
Not that I know of. Never, throughout your life?
Not really. No. Sometimes people abbreviate my first name to "Murr," but it's pretty unusual. See, it already has the "ee" sound on the end, which is a typical diminutive: Charlie, Bobby, Harry... I s that typical of people with "ee" sounds at the end of their names, not to have nicknames?

was born in Morrison, Illinois, on 22 March 1868. Raised in Maquoketa, Iowa, where his family moved in 1875, young Millikan enjoyed a storybook Midwestern American boyhood, fishing, farming, fooling, and learning next to nothing about science. In 1886 he enrolled in the preparatory department of Oberlin College and, in 1887, in the classical course of the college itself. Mainly because he did quite well in Greek, at the end of his sophomore year he was asked to teach an introductory physics class. Glad to have the job, Millikan plunged into the subject, liked it, and soon decided to make it his career. By 1909 Millikan was deeply involved in attempts to measure the electronic charge, providing the most persuasive evidence yet that electrons were fundamental particles of identical charge and mass. In 1913 he published the value for the electronic charge, 4.774 + .009 x 10-1 11 e.s.u., which would serve the world of science for a generation.
