Prion diseases are invariably-fatal neurodegenerative disorders afflicting humans and animals. This class of diseases includes Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE), commonly known as "Mad Cow Disease", Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD) in humans and Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) in deer and elk. InPro Biotechnology, Inc. applies the latest advances in prion research to address consumer health and safety needs around the world. Nobel laureate Stanley B. Prusiner established InPro to make available technologies developed at the Institute for Neurodegenerative Diseases (University of California, San Francisco) and other leading prion research organizations. InPro is the exclusive, worldwide licensee of the Conformation-Dependent Immunoassay (InPro CDI-5) , which has been in development for more than six years at the Institute for Neurodegenerative Diseases (University of California, San Francisco). In addition, InPro offers Process Validation services for the detection of prions in pharmaceutical and consumer products manufacturing, and specialized prion

In this way the mutated PrPs acted like a virus. Dr. stanley B. Prusinerwon the nobel Prize for his study in prion disease. Logicians
http://sc-innovation.com/madcow.html
Finding The Cause Of Mad Cow Disease The reader is provided with a sample case in which to practice the methodology of logical analysis. This sample case involves MCD (mad cow disease) and the search launched by the scientific community for its cause, cure, and control. As indicated earlier, logical analysis encourages us to observe evidence (signs, symptoms, and symbols); to hypothesize a theory (by recognize, evaluate); and verify the hypothesis (by carrying out experiments), and, finally, to apply the newly acquired knowledge to some practical end. Mad cow disease (MCD) was found after the British cattle farmers tried to boost the growth rate of cattle by feeding them food supplements composed of the ground up carcasses of cattle and sheep. MCD is a neuro-degenerative disease in cows which has long fascinated scientists. While it is clearly transmittable, no known virus or other infectious agents have yet been found to transmit it. Scientists know that a mutated form of a protein material called "prion" (PrP), which lacks DNA, is the cause of MCD. But what causes the PrP to mutate? Dr. Stanley B. Prusiner published a paper in Scientific American , in which he hypothesized that the process begins when one molecule of mutated PrP contacts a normal PrP molecule and induces it to refold into the mutated conformation. The mutated particles then attack other normal molecules, and so on, until mutated PrPs accumulate to dangerous levels.
