CONFERENCE Conference Abstract Invited Speakers Program Committee PHILOG The Logic of Time and Modality Roskilde University, Friday, October 31 - Saturday, November 1, 2003 Arthur Norman Prior (1914-69) was the founding father of the modern logic of time and modality. In the 1950s and 1960s he laid out the foundation of temporal logic and showed that this discipline was intimately connected with modal logic. Since then, temporal and modal logic has grown into a mature discipline with many important applications in philosophy, computer science, and also linguistics.
One characteristic of Prior's work is the point of view that logic should be related as closely as possible to intuitions embodied in everyday discourse. He also argued that temporal logic is fundamental for understanding and describing the world in which we live. An important contribution by Prior was the foundation of what is now known as hybrid logics. One simple form of a hybrid logic is a temporal logic in which a special sort of formulas called instant-propositions can be used to refer to specific instants in a model. Thereby further expressive power is obtained. Hybrid logics are closely related to the so-called description logics used for knowledge representation in computer science. Prior's work on hybrid logic was motivated by a philosophical debate regarding two different conceptions of time: The

Arthur Prior
Arthur Prior (1914-1969) undertook pioneering work in intensional logic at a time when modality and intensional concepts in general were under attack. He invented tense logic and was principal theoretician of the movement to apply modal syntax to the formalisation of a wide variety of phenomena. Prior and Carew Meredith devised a version of the possible worlds semantics several years before Kripke published his first paper on the topic. An iconoclast and a resourceful innovator, Prior inspired many to undertake work in intensional logic.
Work on Tense Logic
Prior's most significant achievement was undoubtedly the invention and development of tense logic. His earliest mention of a logic of time-distinctions is to be found in the penultimate chapter of his unpublished manuscript The Craft of Formal Logic (completed in 1951). Following von Wright in `Deontic Logic' he remarks that there are other groups of modal predicates to be set alongside the ordinary or `alethic' modes of necessity and possibility. Prior refers to these non-alethic modalities as `quasi-modals'. After noting that Peter of Spain classified adverbial distinctions of time as modes he says (p. 750): That there should be a modal logic of time-distinctions has been suggested in our own day by Professor Findlay.

Artist's Style Guidelines Line Overview for Artists:
The main goal of any style guide is to promote a standard for artistic expression useful to various freelancers and staff artists, so their resulting efforts best suits the purpose of the publisher on behalf of the customer. Therefore, let's take some time to say what the product line is, and what kind of style we want to encourage. publishes books and produces entertainment products which celebrate the legends of King Arthur, including historical, mythological and literary treatments. Other related subjects include Merlin, the Holy Grail, and the Knights of the Round Table. At present time we do not produce works on any other topic, genre, or period. is an epic roleplaying game set in the world of King Arthur's Britain. Green Knight's goal is to establish and build of a common body of art for its Arthurian roleplaying game to support and encourage heroic, romantic, nostalgic, evocative, and narrative play. is a series of classic and original works set in the world of King Arthur. Each work may have a different theme, and may or may not have any requirement to integrate with the elements of the King Arthur Pendragon adventure game line. Therefore it is possible for each work in this line to use a different artistic style.
Our Audience Those with interests in Arthurian matters are connoisseurs. As opposed to fans of generic fantasy, they tend to be very exacting and knowledgeable in appropriate bodies of history, myth, religion, geography, heraldry, architecture, and so on. Even if they are not yet, they hope to be, which is why they invest their time and interest in our products.

Directors of the National Park Service
A wealthy, gregarious businessman, Stephen T. Mather came to Washington from Chicago in January 1915 as special assistant to Secretary of the Interior Franklin K. Lane for national park concerns. His vigorous efforts to build public and political support for the parks helped persuade Congress to create the National Park Service in 1916. Appointed the first NPS director in May 1917, he continued to promote park access, development, and use and contributed generously to the parks from his personal fortune. During his tenure the service's domain expanded eastward with the addition of Shenandoah, Great Smoky Mountains, and Mammoth Cave national parks. Periodically disabled by manic-depression, Mather left office in January 1929 after suffering a stroke and died a year later. Suggested reading: Robert Shankland, Steve Mather of the National Parks (3rd ed.; New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1976).
