Salyut 7 was the back-up article for Salyut 6 and very similar in equipment and capabilities. It was aloft for four years and two months, during which time it was visited by 10 crews constituting 6 main expeditions and 4 secondary flights (including French and Indian cosmonauts). A total of 22 cosmonauts visited the station, five of them twice and one three times. From two to six crew were aboard at any one time. 11 Soyuz T and 15 Progress spacecraft made a total of 25 dockings and 3 redockings. Mission durations of 211 and then 237 days were achieved, during which 13 EVA's were conducted during 861 total days of piloted flight. On 19-22 August 1986 The station was moved to a 492 x 474 km orbit, which was expected to take a very long time to decay. Retrieval at a future date by a Buran shuttle was planned. However much greater than expected solar activity resulted in it returning to earth much more rapidly than expected.

VLADIMIR SOLOVYOV
Vladimir Solovyov's commemorated in Moscow Literature Museum
2001, June 7, in Moscow Literature Museum a meeting was held dedicated to the memory of Vladimir Solovyov. Two panelists: Aleksey Kozyryov (Moscow State University) and Alexander Nosov, presented the 3 volume of the new (complete) collection of Solovyov's works and told a lot of interesting about new facts and ideas about Solovyov. I was specially impressed by the fact that Pobedonostzev used obsessive words in private letter concerning Solovyov. Nosov supposed that special resentment which Solovyov demonstrated to Pobedonostzev all his life was rooted in the desire of young Solovyov to become a sort of Russia's main prophet, whose ideas serve as guidelines to the Tsar. Pobedonostzev had been chosen instead; what a substitution! Still, from the Russian Orthodox point of view Solovyov's luck that he was rejected by the court. I wonder whether in Russia a man closely connected with the power (like minister Goethe) can be a philosopher. Berdayev's article, 1911

http://www.baylor.edu/~Amy_Antoninka
Vladimir Solovyov : A Unified Vision The charming and compassionate character Alyosha Karamazov had a real life model in the philosopher, poet and theologian, Vladimir Solovyov. Like Dostoyevsky’s gentle creation, Solovyov’s character is marked by love, altruism and compassion toward all humanity. Although from a prominent and wealthy family, Solovyov had no personal property, gave everything he had to the poor, often even the clothes off his own back. Solovyov lived as a nomadic wanderer, staying with friends and relations. He was a close friend of Dostoyevsky. They were comrades who pursued a renaissance of Christian mysticism in Russia Russia was to be a model for the world of a truly Christian nation. And, a Russian was to be a citizen of the world and one who would reconcile all ideas together. Solovyov’s philosophy, in every aspect, intends for just such a ubiquitous reconciliation. In his philosophy and theology, in his life and work, Solovyov sought to unify Slavophil with nihilist, Son with Father, Western with Eastern, Orthodox with Catholic, Jew with Gentile, and the entire world in the salvation of an all-embracing organic church body. Solovyov’s father, the son of an Orthodox priest had attempted, as a professor of history, to unite science and religion,.

Vladimir Solovyov (1853-1900) Table of Contents (Clicking on the links below will take you to that part of this article)
Life Solovyov was born in Moscow in 1853. His father, Sergej Mikhailovich, a professor at Moscow University, is universally recognized as one of Russia's greatest historians. After attending secondary school in Moscow, Vladimir enrolled at the university and began his studies there in the natural sciences in 1869, his particular interest at this time being biology. Already at the age of 13 he had renounced his Orthodox faith to his friends, accepting the banner of materialism perhaps best illustrated by the fictional character of Bazarov in Turgenev's novel Fathers and Sons and the actual historical figure of Pisarev. During the first two or three years of study at the university Solovyov grew disenchanted with his ardent positivism and did poorly in his examinations. An excellent student prior to this time, there is no reason for us to doubt his intellectual gifts. Nevertheless, although he himself as well as his interpreters have attributed his poor performance to growing disinterest in his course of study, this reasoning may sound to us at least somewhat disingenuous. In any case, Solovyov subsequently enrolled as an auditor in the Historical-Philosophical Faculty, then passing the examination for a degree in June 1873.

The Transnational Vladimir Solovyov Society
Welcome! The Transnational Vladimir Solovyov Society was formed by Russians, Americans and West Europeans in Moscow in 1991. Named after the Russian philosopher Vladimir Solovyov (1853-1900), it is an informal group of persons interested in Russian culture and in the whole Russian philosophical tradition (not just in the work of Solovyov). We currently have over 150 members in ten countries. You are invited to join us! As of 2000, the Society will function entirely by e-mail, using both e-mail newsletters and a related discussion group. There are no dues; simply join our e-mail list as described below. Society information is exchanged primarily by e-mail newsletters, issued several times a year.
