Fleet Management Systems: A Global Analysis of Telematics Opportunities, Technologies, and Trends in Commercial Vehicle Operations Pub Time: 2002/03 There has been tremendous excitement generated by the burgeoning consumer telematics market, however telematics has its roots on the commercial side. Dating back to the late 1980s, the fleet management systems (FMS) market continues to grow today, and vendors are now starting to make their way down market to address the untapped private fleets. FMS02 examines several topics, partially including emerging vertical markets, wireless location and communication technologies, in-cab computing systems, and market-driving applications. There are over 200 FMS vendors in the US alone, and commercial operations of interest include taxi fleets, leased fleets, heavy trucks and equipment, transit fleets, and corporate fleets. Official vehicle fleets include ambulances, buses, police cars, fire apparatus, and trucks. In the US alone, the total addressable market is over 20 million vehicles. The study contains numerous charts quantifying the world markets for FMS for the next six years, as well as the market potential of key vertical markets. The study also includes a player profiles section and features a comprehensive list of international market participants.

(THP2/26) Global Analysis of ICRF Waves and Alfvén Eigenmodes in Toroidal Helical Plasmas
A. Fukuyama , E. Yokota , T. Akutsu
Kyoto University, Kyoto, Japan Abstract. The full wave code TASK/WM was extended to analyze the waves in a plasma with three-dimensional inhomogeneity and was applied to the analysis of propagation and absorption of the ICRF waves in the large helical device (LHD). We have studied various parameter dependence of radial power deposition profile and antenna loading impedance; frequency, minority ion density ratio, toroidal mode number. The dependence on the minority ion ratio agrees well with the experimental observation on LHD. The code also has a capability to describe the three kinds of weakly damped Alfvén eigenmodes, GAE, TAE and HAE, in toroidal helical plasmas. We found several kinds of eigenmodes and studied their behavior. Read the full paper in PDF format.

Pro-Kineticist II: 2 nd Order Global Analysis and Simulation of Concentration Dependant Reaction Kinetics
Applied Photophysics Ltd. is pleased to announce the release of Pro-Kineticist II (Pro-KII) for PC's and compatibles running Windows 9x, ME, NT. 2000 or XP. Pro-KII provides 2 nd order global analysis for spectra-kinetic data. Our previous global analysis application (Pro-K) was able to analyse sets of wavelength kinetic data under common initial conditions, for example a single diode array data set or a sequence of single wavelength repeat shots. With Pro-KII we can now simultaneously analyse complimentary data sets gathered under different initial conditions , notably reagent concentration or pH. The key benefit of this is to significantly enhance the ability of the analysis to resolve reaction parameters. Rates and intermediate spectra which were previously underdetermined and therefore insoluble can now be found. The simplest example is when attempting to fit a second order binding reaction: A+B>C. Using 1 st order global analysis, the spectra of A and B cannot both be determined. It is necessary to fix the spectrum of one of the reactants. However, by performing the reaction at two (or more) starting concentrations of A and B and submitting the data to Pro-KII the spectra can now be resolved.

UBA/CONICET, Depto. de Cs. de la Atmosfera y los Oceanos, FCEN, UBA, Pabellon II Ciudad Universitaria, 1428 Capital Federal - Argentine Abstract Goals To determine if eigenpatterns of MSU channel 4 data are robust and physically meaningful. Standard statistical eigenanalysis is applied to the T-mode and S-mode of the correlation matrices. The T-mode analysis will be highlighted and compared against several solutions for veracity. Data Temperature anomalies for the Southern Hemisphere were analyzed for the period January1979 - December 1997. The data correspond to the MSU channel 4, temperature anomalies for lower stratosphere. This channel has its peak weighting at 70hPa and provides a good measure of lower stratospheric deep-layer temperature. The data are placed in a 5128 (gridpoint) by 228 (month) matrix. Methodology Results
  • The dimensionality of the analysis can not be accurately gauged by looking at the eigenvalues. There are more interpretable eigenvectors than would be found by application of typical eigenvalue magnitude and spacing techniques, such as the Scree test, LEV test or North et al. test. This suggests that those eigenvectors with variability indistinguishable from white noise have physical signal embedded within them. Developing new tests, based on the spatial structure of the variability, rather than the magnitude of the variability, should be given priority.

References The field of Genetics is undergoing tumultuous change after nearly a century of standard approaches to genetic analysis. The Human Genome Project is providing tools and technologies that are changing the ways that we pursue an understanding of gene function, which is the underlying goal in modern and traditional genetics. In this paper, I overview the directions of the genome project as they relate to gene function analysis in mice and humans, and how various modern technologies are coalescing to address this in a powerful way. We feel that in environments where databases are uncooperative, it is unrealistic to assume this information is available or can be easily gathered. In this paper, we more thoroughly investigate query expansion in distributed information retrieval. We examine local context analysis , a technique for query expansion, using smaller collections of documents than previously used. In environments where databases are not cooperative, it is not reasonable to assume that we can gather full information from these databases. We sample documents from each database as an attempt to ....
