P(x), Probability Unknown, is a newly formed nonprofit, nonpartisan organization established to promote a popular dialogue concerning population and its effects. Our mission is to present the population issue in a manner that provokes interest, generates thought, and elicits opinion. P(x) does not take positions on the issue but encourages awareness and debate on the implications of current and future human population levels. In doing this we hope to inspire a sense of personal, community, and global stewardship for a sustainable future.
What's New P(x) recently finished shooting a documentary entitled "Where are We Going?" Our film crew traveled through the Midwest asking folks what they thought of our future. The film provides a platform for 'ordinary Americans' to voice their opinions and gives the rest of us, 'ordinary Americans', a chance to hear them. What do you think? What do

Lesson on Introduction to Probability
Problem: A spinner has 4 equal sectors colored yellow, blue, green, and red. What are the chances of landing on blue after spinning the spinner?
Solution: The chances of landing on blue are 1 in 4, or one fourth.
This problem asked us to find the probability that the spinner will land on blue. Let's look at some definitions and examples from the problem above. Definition Example An experiment is a situation involving chance or probability that leads to results called outcomes. The experiment is spinning the spinner. An outcome is the result of a single trial of an experiment. The possible outcomes are landing on yellow, blue, green, or red. An event is one or more outcomes of an experiment. The event being measured is landing on blue. Probability is the measure of how likely an event is. The probability of landing on blue is one fourth.
In order to measure probabilities, mathematicians have devised the following formula for finding the probability of an event. Probability Of An Event P(A) = THE NUMBER OF WAYS EVENT A CAN OCCUR THE TOTAL NUMBER OF POSSIBLE OUTCOMES
The probability of event A is the number of ways event A can occur divided by the total number of possible outcomes.

Coronary Artery Calcification
CT detection Atherosclerotic heart disease is the number one cause of death. Methods of detecting coronary artery disease prior to fatal events are needed so that appropriate measures can be taken to reduce risk. Anatomic studies have established that coronary calcification is invariably located near areas of advanced atherosclerotic disease. A direct relation between the extent of coronary calcification and the severity of stenotic lesions or frequency of myocardial infarction is consistently observed in autopsy series. The more extensive the calcification, the more frequent and more severe the degree of stenosis. This relationship is recognized in all age groups and both sexes, but is more marked in younger patients.
CT and in particular, electron-beam CT (EBCT) is the most sensitive radiographic method to detect coronary artery calcification. The value of EBCT can be summarized as follows:
