Was ist Ayurveda?

62. Advaita Vedanta
The individual Self is not other than the Ultimate Reality. These three statementsof Shankara (8th century AD) express the essence of advaita vedanta.
http://www.rishi.dk/reality/vedanta/vedanta.html
Nondualistic Vedanta
Vedanta presents an ancient worldview that fully accords with contemporary quantum physics and cosmology. Furthermore, Vedanta offers plausible extensions to these sciences and provides means for advancing their current frontiers! Vedanta is based on the Upanishads which form the final parts or conclusions of the Vedas - a set of Indian scriptures written 2500-500 B.C. The teachings of the Upanishads are rather indefinite and have led to several interpretations. Two main approaches have evolved - one dualistic (dvaita) and the other non-dualistic (advaita). Only the latter will be considered at this site.
The Ultimate Reality alone is real.
The universe is unreal.
The individual Self is not other than the Ultimate Reality.
The third of Shankara's sentences states that our individual Selves are actual manifestations of the Ultimate Reality. The Self is related to the mind and body much in the same way as the Ultimate Reality is related to the whole universe - i.e. the Self is the source and cause of the mind and body but is not an intrinsic part of these. Nevertheless, the Self is always present behind the scenes and is just veiled by the various mental activities of the mind. These activities can be stilled by means of certain techniques, whereby the veil vanishes so that the Self is experienced directly. Since the Self is an actual manifestation of the Ultimate Reality, a direct experience of the Self equals a direct experience of the Ultimate Reality.

index page
new site address - please update www.saraswati.soc.btinternet.co.uk THE MIND The state of the human mind presides over man's entire existence. The perennial method of Vedanta helps to recognise how this happens. This shows that human difficulties arise from weakened communication, and how religion and self development methods become necessary to overcome this.
LIBERATION The mind which accepts whatever life offers, is able to escape into the deeper meanings of the scriptures, thus discovering the truth behind the duality of life. This requires shaping ones destiny rather than being shaped by it.
TEACHINGS The divine teachings of the Shrimat Bhagavad Gita, the Upanishads and the Brahma Sutras require the key or oral teaching to unlock their meanings.
APPLICATION The process of turning the mind from its attraction to the physical world may give rise to a condition of receptivity and the possibility of Self development in this life.
METHOD This is the art of devotion to self knowledge, the work over which Saraswati presides.

advaita vedanta and Enlightenment A discussion on advaita vedanta, Enlightenmentand Nondualism. What is self-realization? advaita vedanta and Enlightenment.
http://www.washingtonsatsang.org/AdvaitaVedantaEnlightenment.html
Advaita Vedanta is a Sanskrit term used to reference non-dual teachings of enlightenment we reference these teachings as Non-Dualism . Self-realization is the extinguishment of individuality and a personal point of reference, whose illusory existence is found in the false assumption of separation in conditioned thought. The full embodiment of enlightenment reveals not only the transcendence of all knowledge as the non-manifest or formless, but also the inclusiveness of totality. There is no self-referencing whatsoever and no abidance anywhere.
Unlike traditional teachings where the subject matter is learned and conceptualized, non-dualism
You can never know who you are. You can know what you are not, since you are the knowing. There is waiting, but there is nothing to wait for, since there is no one to wait for it. Waiting for something belongs to conditioned thought. Waiting without waiting is your timelessness. In this waiting, there is the discovery that you are what you are waiting for and the waiting itself is the answer. Vedanta (“end of Veda”) one of the Indian six schools of philosophy is based on Upanishads . The two branches, Advaita Vedanta and Dvaita Vedanta differ mainly in the concept that refers to the relation between consciousness ( Brahman ) and matter ( Prakriti Advaita Vedanta, first constructed as a distinct philosophical concept by Gaudapada, was later on elaborated in a definite form by Shankara (approx. 8 th c. C.E.). Shankara has taken ideas from Gaudapada ’s Advaita Vedanta whose key to the concept was “one without the second” ( Ekam Advitiam This statement seen as a cornerstone of the Advaita Vedanta philosophy is a clear affirmation of distinction/ differentiation. The pertinent idea in the Advaita Vedanta is that Brahman , the absolute consciousness is the only reality, the entire manifestation in nature known as Maya , is no more but an illusion/ appearance, a divine play ( Lila Brahman itself is seen of two kinds, the aspect that possesses attributes known as Saguna Brahman Ishvara ) and the aspect without attributes known as Nirguna Brahman However

Dr. Jean Klein
French teacher of Advaita Vedanta who attained realization over 30 years ago.
by Andrew Rawlinson Dr. Klein (this is how he is addressed in Britain so I follow the convention) presents himself though without fanfare as someone who embodies the teaching that he gives, namely, that one's true nature is 'ultimate awareness' which exists independently of any object of perception, including thoughts. This state is utterly tranquil and self-contained. It has nothing to do with 'names and forms' or, to put it another way, with space and time. It is not surprising, therefore, that it has radical consequences for personal identity. Hence when someone said that they would like to ask some persoanl questions, he replied, "There's no person to answer personal questions. I listen to your question and I listen to the answer. The answer comes out of silence." (The Ease of Being, 19) But certain facts about his life are available. He was born around 1916 and spent his childhood in Brno (in Czechoslovakia), Prague, and Vienna. He came from a cultured background and several members of his family were good musicians. He himself started to learn the violin at the age of seven and has been a talented player all his life. He had what he calls "a strong urge for freedom" as a teenager. He read Dostoyevsky and Nietzsche, and was especially influenced by Gandhi, whose teaching of ahimsa/non-violence led him to become a vegetarian when he was 16. He also read people like Coomaraswamy, Aurobindo, and Krishnamurti (though he found Theosophy itself too sentimental). But the person who had the greatest impact on him was Rene Guenon. Dr. Klein describes his reading of the The Symbolism of the Cross (which, like all Guenon's books, deals with metaphysics, cosmology, and tradition) as a turning point (Transmission of the Flame, iv).
