• Advaita Vedanta - Vedanta is not a religion or a dogma, it is the total philosophy of life, the life that is pulsating alike through humans, animals, plant kingdom and the rest of it. This life principle is variously known as the Self, God, Truth, Consciousness etc. and is of the nature of Bliss Absolute. It is none other than I the Self and is my own essential nature. Discover this Truth through Vedanta, Who am I?, and free yourself from the shackles of repeated births and deaths. (Added: 13-Jan-2003 Hits: Rating: Votes: 0) Rate It

- Why do we feel less satisfied than we should? An amazing new book reveals what many have suspected: happiness is central to the human constitution. Life-satisfaction is what we really want. Published by Insyte Press, The Secret of Happiness and the Good Life explains how our body-mind operating system is actually constructed around the central goal of life-satisfaction (not just life-preservation).

http://home.planet.nl/~jan.koehoorn/html/watisadvaita.html

and the Way of Radical Understanding
Advaitism: Meditate on (or invert attention upon) the essence of self (or witnessing consciousness) until all objects are excluded and the Transcendental is Revealed. Buddhism: Meditate on (or clearly observe) all presently arising objects until the self (or the conventional sense of consciousness as individual and independent of objects) is overcome and the Transcendental is Revealed. Advaitayana Buddhism: Understand and directly transcend the contraction that generates the sense of self and of objects as conventions of limitation (independent of one another and of the Transcendental), and so in every moment recognize self and objects (and the binding power of self and objects) in the Transcendental (or That which is always already Revealed).

David Loy: On Non- Duality Sankara's Advaita Vedanta is generally regarded as having best developed the main strand of Upanisadic thought, which stresses the identity of Atman and Brahman. Brahman is an infinite, self-luminous consciousness that transcends the subject-object duality. As the "Witness", it is that which cannot be made into an object. Unqualified and all inclusive, perhaps its most significant feature is that it is "one without second", for there is nothing outside it. Hence Atman - the true Self, what each of us really is - is one with this Brahman. "TAT TWAM ASI" -"THAT THOU ART" is "ALL-SELFNESS." There is nothing else but the Self. To realize the whole universe as the Self is the means of getting rid of bondage. To the seer, all thing have verily become the Self. Whoever has realized and intimately known the Self, all is his Self, and he, again, is indeed the Self of all.
So the Atman should not be understood as a distinct self that merges with Brahman. To realize Atman is to realize Brahman because they are really the same thing. One may state, in answer to the Buddhists, that a consciousness of self is needed to organize experience, but that turns out to say, when Brahman realizes its own true nature. The world of differences and change is maya, illusion; there is nothing but the all-inclusive Self ( which must somehow incorporate maya). Yet this sounds awkward, since the concept of a self seems to presuppose an other, a nonself from which it is distinguished—a point to which we will return later. So perhaps the term Atman should be rejected as superfluous, because it suggests another entity apart from Brahman.
