an explanation by a Jewish Christian, Pastor Burt Yellin Hudson Taylor was the first successful missionary from Europe to bring the Gospel to thc people of China. Why did he succceed when others failed? Because he realized that it wasn't necessary to force European culture upon the Chinese as a part of the Gospel. He even adapted Chinese culture into his own life-style. Despite his success, he was despised by the other missionaries for "compromising" the Gospel for not making Western culture part and parcel of the "Gospel." There is much "alien" culture that surrounds Gentile Christianity, which makes it unpalatable to most Jewish people. Jews will nearly always reject the Gentile Jesus as being the Messiah, but will much more readily accept the Jewish Yeshua(Jesus) as being their Messiah. Most Messianic Jews are much more "zealous for the Law (Torah)" than their Gentile Christian counterparts. In this, they are following the example of the first century Messianic Jew, who were also "zealous for Torah" (Acts 15:19-21;21:17-27). Most Messianic Jews refrain from calling themselves Christians. which is Greek terminology. They prefer more hebraic terms, such as Messianic Jews.

UMJC defines Messianic Judaism, begins seminary By Donita Painter September 2002 ORLANDO, Fla. —Two landmark decisions have been made by the Union of Messianic Jewish Congregations. Just before the union’s annual conference, held in Orlando, July 31-August 3, delegates agreed to adopt an official definition of Messianic Judaism and develop an accredited, graduate-level seminary program. About 70 UMJC delegates approved a statement defining Messianic Judaism as a "movement of Jewish congregations and congregation-like groupings committed to Yeshua the Messiah that embrace the covenantal responsibility of Jewish life and identity rooted in Torah, expressed in tradition, and renewed and applied in the context of the New Covenant." There were two dissenters in the July 31 vote, said Elliot Klayman, UMJC secretary. "We are not trying to impose this on the rest of the world," said Russ Resnik, UMJC general secretary. "This is what we understand as our calling. We are trying to define ourselves, not let someone else define us." Resnik said the definition came from concerns that the "label Messianic Judaism has been used to cover many religious trends."

What is Messianic Judaism?
The rebirth of modern Israel has been paralleled by a revival of interest in spirituality among Jewry worldwide. Amidst this search for meaning and truth, Jewish people have once again examined the Hebrew Scriptures, the most ancient and central document in Jewish faith. Many have compared the teachings of the Torah and the Prophets with the claims of the New Testament. A great number of these people have come to embrace the belief that Jesus is the Messiah of Israel and that the New Testament is, after all, a Jewish book ... about a Jewish Messiah. While Messianic Judaism is new in some respects, it is also ancient. It stands on a foundation going back to biblical times. In the first century CE, there were several different sects within Judaism Pharisees, Saduccees and Herodians to name a few. These different Jewish groups were unquestionably part of the larger Jewish community. A great number of Judeans comprised one of these groups the Nazarenes. These were followers of the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth, and the forerunners of today's Messianic Judaism. The rise of the current Messianic Jewish movement began simultaneously with the rise of the Zionist movement in the early 1900s. Study groups and fellowships began to sprout throughout the United States and in different parts of the world. The explosive growth that solidified the Messianic movement, however, took place in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Today there are over 200 Messianic Synagogues in the United States and approximately 50 in Israel. The movement's rapid growth continues, with new congregations being started in the former Soviet Union, Latin America, and in key cities around the world.

I asked a former member of such a group to explain to me what these terms meant. His reply- they are synonyms! We are talking about Jews who have converted to Christianity. However they will tell you that they are still Jewish and that it is possible for a Jew to be both Jewish and a believer in Jesus/Yeshua. The groups listed are for the most part Christian supported and staffed. They usually have as their leaders ordained ministers. Their common goal is to bring the Jewish people to accept Jesus as the promised Jewish Messiah and the savior of the world. That he died for our sins and rose from the dead on the third day. All who believe in him, Jew or Gentile will be saved. The Jewish community has categorized Tequniques that they use to accomplish the mission of bringing Jews to accept Jesus/Yeshua, as being deceptive and offensive.

Quodlibet Journal: Volume 1 Number 1, March-April 1999 http://www.Quodlibet.net An Introduction to Messianic Judaism Romans 11:11 "Again I ask, Did they stumble so as to fall beyond recovery? Not at all! Rather, because of their transgression, salvation has come to the Gentiles to make Israel envious." A new thing on the Earth In many evangelical circles, there is discussion of a fairly recent, but rapidly growing phenomenon: Messianic Judaism. There are very popular national television shows about it, and no less a publication than Christianity Today magazine has recently done a major article about it. Students at Christian colleges and universities are asking about it. And churches are divided, in the words of the CT writer, "taking turns supporting and condemning" this new happening. What is it? What is Messianic Judaism? That’s a pretty easy question to answer, in general. Messianic Jews are those Jews who believe that the Messiah promised in the Bible has already come (they are waiting for him to come again ), and that He is the one who Christians call Jesus. They maintain their Jewish lifestyle and identity, but believe they are redeemed through God’s grace, by faith in the Messiah, Jesus (who they know as Yeshua, his Hebrew name). There are hundreds of Messianic Jewish congregations, with a growing representation on virtually every continent.

Messianic Judaism/Jewish Christianity
Doctrines Messianic Jews/Jewish Christians adhere to certain Jewish practices while acknowledging Jesus (whom they refer to by his Aramaic name Yeshua) as the Messiah foretold in the Hebrew scriptures. Traditional Jewish practices observed by Messianic Jews/Jewish Christians are the Friday evening, lighting Shabbat candles, kiddush and wearing kippot during their service. The service includes the recitation of traditional Jewish prayers in Hebrew, although the words are amended to include Jesus.
According to the constitution of the Messianic Jewish (Hebrew Christian) Alliance "they look to the One God (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) as their sole divine authority and acknowledge the Tanach (Old Testament) and Brit Hadshah (New Testament) as the Word of God. They reject the authority of Rabbinical literature. They accept Messiah Yeshua as their personal saviour. They believe in the atonement which he wrought once and for all by His death and His resurrection, and acknowledge Yeshua as the promised Messiah. They have to make public confession of their faith." People of Jewish parentage who share their beliefs are entitled membership; non-Jewish believers, however, are only entitled to associate membership. History The earliest Christians were Jewish Christians whose missions were directed towards the Jews. In spite of St Paul's teaching that observance of the Jewish law was not required for Gentile converts to Christianity, some Jewish Christians continued to insist on the observance aspects of the Jewish law such as abstaining from the consumption of pork and taking ritual baths. These groups were subsequently marginalised as heretics and were in the most part either absorbed into Jewish sects, such as the Zadokites or the Essenes, or into Gentile churches. By the fourth century there were almost no distinctively Jewish congregations left.

DEFINING MESSIANIC JUDAISM
Independent Commentary Historical Note: Our progress in this task was reported through Theological Forums held successively at our National Conferences in 2000 and 2001. After the 2001 Forum, it became apparent that consensus was building more rapidly than we had at first envisioned. Theology Committee members Mark Kinzer and Dan Juster were enlisted to draft a consensus statement reflecting the work done in the previous two Theological Forums. After reading this statement, General Secretary Russ Resnik suggested that it be presented for ratification by our delegates at the 2002 Conference in Orlando, Florida. Russ Resnik was assigned to review and respond to the statement in the 2002 Theological Forum. After the definition was strongly ratified by the assembled delegates, it was presented, along with Russ Resnik’s reflections, to conference participants at the Theological Forum, and followed by discussion.

In so believing they have chosen to worship the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob according to the Biblical customs and traditions of the Jewish nation. To some the concept of being Jewish and believing in Yeshua is an oxymoron. Jewish and Jesus they believe are mutually exclusive. However when we consider who a Jewish person is According to Scripture, the concept of remaining Jewish and believing in Yeshua are neither an oxymoron, nor are they mutually exclusive . The name Jew was derived from the forth tribe of Israel, "Judah," meaning in Hebrew "Praiser of G-d." So firstly a Jew is a Praiser of G-d. Most people are under the misconception that being Jewish refers to being a member of a religious institution or that it is a birthright.

Christian Zionism And Messianic Judaism By James B. Jordan One of the most grotesque aspects of the sociology of modern American protestantism is the phenomenon of Christian Zionism. While related to the theology of Dispensationalism , Christian Zionism is actually something altogether different theologically. The purpose of this essay is to explore this movement, and in particular to point out its grievously heretical theoretical basis. To facilitate discussion, we shall interact with the expressed beliefs of a Christian Zionist, Jerry Falwell . We close with a brief note on Messianic Judaism. But then, that brings us to the issue: Are Bible-believing Christians supposed to support a Jewish State, for theological reasons? Such is the assertion of Jerry Falwell, and of the heresy of Christian Zionism. Let us turn to this doctrine. Orthodox Dispensationalism versus Christian Zionism Jerry Falwell and Christian Zionism Most of what I have written regarding Christian Zionism above applies to this group of Messianic Jews. I should like, however, to call attention to another facet of the matter. These Messianic Jews believe wrongly that Gentile Christianity (the historic church) departed from Biblical forms in the early days of the church. They see as their mission a restoration of these customs, which they believe they have pre-served.
