WHAT IS PAGANISM?
History of Paganism
The term Pagan has numerous common definitions. Many dictionaries
define a Pagan as anyone not of the Judeo-Islamic-Christian religions.
Some people consider anyone who does not share their religion to be a
Pagan. Still others believe that a Pagan is a person who is
anti-religion. None of these "definitions" manage to capture the true
meaning of the term.
To discover the core meaning of Pagan, we look back to ancient times
when the word Pagan referred to a person of the country, or a peasant.
Catholic Church and the poor peasants' inability to relate. Brief description of the "glory of the Goddess and God in each starry night" and note of the inconsistancies of the original Pagan beliefs with the Catholic church. Also, several paragraphs detailing the development of of the Church's campaign to expunge Paganism, some of the methods employed and the subsequent Witch Hunts. Finally, an overall summary of Paganism in Modern Times "Today, little is known about the Pagans who survived what is now often called "The Burning Times." Paganism, as it exists today, is best

Introduction
CHRISTMAS-DECEMBER 25 this is the day designated on our calendars and on our hearts as the day of Christ's birth. But is this really the day upon which Christ was born? Are today's customs during this season of Christian origin? Or is Christmas a result of a mixture between paganism and Christianity? This is a question that some will not even want to consider. Many have heard the rumor, many have thought through the question and justified the celebration of the holiday and many just plain don't want to hear about it. But please, give these facts some place in your mind so that you may know the truth and live accordingly. Return to Top Jump to Bottom
The Wrong Date
The word "Christmas" is not found anywhere in the scriptures of course, and, as we shall see, December 25 is definitely not the date on which Christ was born. It is evident that Jesus was not born during the middle of winter, for at the time of his birth, the shepherds were living out in the fields with their flocks. As the bible says: "There were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night" (

Pagan Parenting and Homeschooling
Hello! Failte! Namaste! How ever you want to say it, welcome to this site. I'm so glad you're here. This website has gone through many changes over the years. It's amazing to me how it started out as a personal page just for fun. It quickly changed into a pagan/wiccan site with information and links about those beliefs. Then again it evolved, as my beliefs and lifestyle changed, into a pagan parenting site. Before long it began encompassing homeschool information for pagan and christians alike. Today it is more a pagan family site which includes religion, parenting, homeschooling and much more. As the years go on, I'm sure it will make many more changes. It will be interesting to see what comes next. This site is being under construction this week. Please forgive any weird goings on while your here. - April 6, 2002 to April 12, 2002 Coming Soon! 88. Was Hegel Christian Or Atheist?

    Was Hegel Christian or Atheist?
    Paul E. Trejo
After Hegel's death there was a great clash of intellectuals which the Hegelian theologian David Strauss called the clash between "the Left Hegelians and the Right Hegelians." The Left Hegelians were atheists, led by the ex-minister Bruno Bauer and his famous follower, Karl Marx, and by the radical editor Arnold Ruge and the radical egoist whose real name was not Max Stirner. The Right Hegelians were Christian fundamentalists. They found Christian inspiration in Hegel's philosophy, and they condemned David Strauss' progressive New Testament critique, The Life of Jesus . Strauss also took his inspiration from Hegel. He showed how the earliest Christian communities altered the Gospels with their local traditions. Albert Schweitzer praised his book as epoch-making, and by today's standards the book is tame. But it was the 19th century death-knell for Hegelian scholarship. Strauss defended himself by accusing Hegel himself of ambiguity on the subject. Bruno Bauer was living evidence of this. Bauer was first the leader of the Right Hegelians, and led the damnation of David Strauss' theology of demythologization. After more years of reflection, however, Bauer turned coat and became the leader of the Left Hegelians. (In either role, Albert Schweitzer praised Bauer's scholarship as world class.) Scholars for generations have reviewed the arguments of the Left and Right Hegelians, and are still divided on the question: Was Hegel a Christian or an atheist?

From The Persephone ritual - adapted from the text of Dion Fortune's "Sea Priestess" and "Moon Magic" Welcome, Traveller - please, stop a while. Here - sit beneath the shade of these Cypress trees; rest from your journey across the winding, twisting roads... Take a moment to listen to the wind in the branches above you, to hear the lark high in the sapphire-sky above you; dip the wooden bowl into the still, clear waters of the well on whose ancient stone-sides you now sit - feel the rough wood against your lips as the cool water fills your senses and quenches your thirst. Drink deep, Traveller; and be refreshed...

Paganism is Not a Religion
By Aedhelwyrd
Hardly a day goes by when I don't hear or read references to "the Pagan Religion" such as (opens randomly selected Pagan Mag and scans through) "No-one there appreciated that Paganism was a modern day religion." Or (opens another handy Pagan 'zine) "Paganism is a religion whereas the Craft is human activity (within it)." (Shrugs shoulders, utterly bewildered by this statement.) Somehow I'd always thought that a "religion" involved, at the very least, a commonly held set of beliefs and practices amongst those who profess it. What do all Pagans have in common that would bind them together in a single faith? Let's start with what ought to be an easy question to answer for any religion. What deity or deities do all Pagans believe in, worship, or honour? Attend any large Pan-Pagan gathering and you will find, among other things: monotheistic Goddess worshipers, duotheistic "Lord and Lady" worshippers, pantheists who believe that "God" is the sum of all forces in the universe, animists who believe that all living things are divine, polytheists who believe in a large number of gods and goddesses each of whom has a completely independent existence and personality, and the odd chaos magician who believes he or she is God incarnate. Within these broad categories there are many other permutations. For example, polytheists may honour a single patron god, a specific pantheon of gods, or an eclectic set of gods chosen from various pantheons.
