41. LLU, Seventh-day Adventist History
About seventhday adventists. This same group accepted the teaching of theseventh-day Sabbath, and became known as seventh-day adventists.

About Seventh-day Adventists The colorful history of the Seventh-day Adventist Church began as a result of close study of Bible prophecies around the mid-nineteenth century. People of many persuasions came to believe that the second coming, or advent, of Christ was imminent.
When Christ did not come at that time, a group of Adventists in New England, continuing their study of prophecy, concluded that the time period was right but the event anticipated was the beginning of the final judgment in heaven rather than the second coming of Christ, which was still in the future. This same group accepted the teaching of the seventh-day Sabbath, and became known as Seventh-day Adventists. The church organized formally in 1863.
Basing its faith on the Bible, the church today is a closely-knit, worldwide organization with a membership of more than 8.9 million believers. The church sent its first missionary, J. N. Andrews, abroad in 1874, and today conducts evangelistic endeavors in more than 208 nations, in more than 700 languages.
The church operates one of the largest Protestant educational systems in the world, with more than 5,700 schools, including 86 colleges and 15 universities.

PROGRESSIVE SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTISTS Dedicated to helping SDA's change the church for the better Many of the articles contained here can be used to correct some of the many errors which are plaguing the current SDA church. There is a strong undercurrent within the body of the church from those who label themselves as traditional/ historical Seventh-day Adventists. While we recognize their right to believe as they choose, we would like to save the church from some of the consequences which their beliefs may cause. To return the church back on the path of growth and enlightenment. Leaving what is behind and pressing on toward the mark. Cirkev adventistu sedmeho dne History In the 19th century Christians in a number of countries of the world were involved in the studies of biblical prophesies and came to the conclusion that the "time of the end" starts, as it is stated in the Bible. Their persuasion that the second coming of Jesus Christ is near gave rise to the movement which in mid 19th century resulted in the establishment of the church that adopted the professing name "The Seventh-Day Adventists".This name was adopted in 1860, however the church was officially founded in 1863. In that year, in the U. S. A. it counted 3.500 members in 125 congregations. The doctrine of the Church of the Seventh-Day Adventists (CSDA) spread fast all over the world. The first congregations of Adventists were being established in Bohemia and Moravia in the 1890s.
