"The School of Chemical Engineering is part of the Division of Engineering at Edinburgh University . It is a medium sized chemical engineering school with a strong emphasis on both teaching and research. We provide a friendly environment for learning with guidance and pastoral care being offered throughout the course. Our strategy in teaching is to commence with the scientific principles underpinning the practice of chemical engineering and to then show how these are applied in solving engineering problems. There is a structured programme of laboratory work and works visits to support the lecture material and design teaching. Group design exercises are used throughout the degree programme to apply the taught theory. In the 1998 Scottish Teaching Quality Assessment (TQA) we obtained the highest number of top scores for teaching observation and were commended on the quality of our pastoral care. We hope that this site will answer many of your questions about Chemical Engineering at Edinburgh, but please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further queries or if you wish to visit us." It would take too long to list all the products that are impacted by chemical engineers, but knowing what industries employ them may help you comprehend the scope of their work. Chemical engineers work in manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, design and construction, pulp and paper, petrochemicals, food processing, specialty chemicals, microelectronics, electronic and advanced materials, polymers, business services, biotechnology, and environmental health and safety industries, among others. Specifically, chemical engineers improve food processing techniques, and methods of producing fertilizers, to increase the quantity and quality of available food. They also construct the synthetic fibers that make our clothes more comfortable and water resistant; they develop methods to mass-produce drugs, making them more affordable; and they create safer, more efficient methods of refining petroleum products, making energy and chemical sources more productive and cost effective. Chemical engineers also develop solutions to environmental problems, such as pollution control and remediation.

Engineering Design Services can provide all phases of chemical engineering support and consultations. Our experience in the chemical process industry combined with our access to major technical libraries allows us to specialize in performing technology surveys and other unique literature searches. We can evaluate the various technologies available for solving your particular process problems. Whether the problems relate to environmental, process improvement, energy conservation or incorporating a totally new technology into your plant, we can scan the published technical / industrial information and develop reports on the options available to you. We also evaluate each option to assess the current application and cost associated with its use. Our final report will evaluate the various options with recommendations for potential success in your application and projected costs. If you would like to review a typical technology survey, email us at EngDesignServices@yahoo.com or call us at 864-292-8308. If you include a brief discussion of the type technology you are evaluating, we will give you an initial assessment of availability of information. Beyond the technology survey, we are available to assist you in implementing the chosen technology option, by designing the equipment, piping and controls and aiding you in procurement of the all the required materials. Through our contacts we can also work with you in the installation, startup and testing phases of the project.
